24.01.2022 #Autism and #Interoception Interoception awareness is something I’ve recently learned about. For those of you unfamiliar with the term, it is considered the ei...ghth sense dealing with the internal state of the body. Research suggests it’s related to a condition many of us autistics also have, alexithymia (difficulty with identifying and describing feelings). Interoception explains so much about my life! It explains how I can easily forget to eat or drink water, I feel pain at a very intense level, or I don’t notice when my heart rate skyrockets. I am glad I am finally learning more about my body so I can take better care of myself. Do you have issues with interoception awareness? If so, how have you learned to improve your awareness? What coping mechanisms have you found useful? -f.au.n Image credit of human body to Tahir Zaman on pngtree.

21.01.2022 Many people have kids with Sensory Processing Disorder and don't know there's a reason for their behaviors (and believe it or not, many adults have it and don't... know... that was me a few years ago! ) So... here's a post explaining it a little bit. ***SPD is complicated and can look different in every person who has it. This is a quick list of possible ways it can manifest... but it's important to note that the left/right sides are not mutually exclusive. Many people exhibit a mix of behaviors from both sides.*** You can find some more SPD resources at nicolefilipponeauthor.com #positiveparenting #positiveparentingtips #specialneedskids #specialneedsparenting #specialneedsmom #specialneedseducation #specialneeds #spd #sensoryprocessingdisorder #spdawareness #sensoryprocessingdisorderparentsupport #sensoryprocessingdisorderawareness #autismacceptance #autismawareness #autismsupport #sensorystories

15.01.2022 Dear South Australian public, Whilst the state will be on a 'pause' for the next 6 days, I wish to confirm to everyone that Foodbank SA as an essential service... will continue to provide food to charities and families in need across the state. As such, all Foodbank Food Hubs and warehouses will continue to operate over the coming 6 day lockdown. Foodbank is the last line for providing food relief to vulnerable members of our community and our services will be required more than ever in the coming days. Please stay safe, together we can do this. Yours sincerely, Greg Pattinson (Foodbank SA CEO). #foodbanksa #covid19 #endhunger #lockdown

15.01.2022 A year of hand-washing our laundry. I finally brought a washing machine. Helps me a lot, I cried at the shop. I also got a school jumper and other clothing ...for my prep. I got us a scooter and our afternoon fun at the park. At the start of lock-down was so scared and stress coz heaps of people hoarding and we can only buy limited items. But thankful for the stimulus and covid money can breathe and anxiety is not too bad then. Message from Jaidie

07.01.2022 ‘10 assertive tips’ when faced with a tricky or hard conversation with someone (including our kids!). 1.Keep your feelings in check. This should never be about... winning. Try to respond to this person in the same way you’d respond to a dear friend. 2.Don’t justify, defend, or get too wordy 3.To begin, say sorry or agree; it is beautifully disarming. 4.Keep asking yourself, ‘What can I do to be most helpful in this moment?’ In a heated moment, others draw their composure from our composure and kindness. 5.Choose your words carefully and use connecting facial and body language 6.Validate their feelings. Gently ask a question or two as these will help them express their feelings and thoughts 7.When you sense another’s emotions are running high, slow your words and actions down. You do not need to be polished or slick be authentic! 8.The prize is choosing words that keep you connected and moving forwards. If you would not say it, or do it to someone you respect, then don’t! 9.Summarize the situation and give it hope. If you need to - make a time for a follow up meeting. 10. The goal - to find a solution, a compromise and keep everyone’s integrity intact! See more

03.01.2022 I didn't write this, but I feel its important to share. For the exhausted woman who showers a few minutes longer to cry with the water... For the person hidden ...in the bathroom, because she needs a few minutes of tranquility while slipping tears from her eyes. For the woman who is so tired that she feels she can't continue, that she would give anything to feel like herself again... For the woman who cries in her room when everyone leaves the house and for a moment she let's go... For the woman who desperately battles with self Confidence when wearing denim pants because she wants to look pretty and wear them to feel better but everything just climbs over or can't close... For the woman who orders pizza for dinner because she didn’t have the time to make dinner again as she expected... Because she's tired. For the woman who feels alone, even when she's accompanied. You're worth a lot. You are important. You are enough. You are wonderful... I love you... PLEASE SHARE This post might just save a life.
