23.01.2022 The Oskar Lafontaine Waistcoat Oskar Lafontaine is a German politician and former German Finance Minister. During his short tenure as Minister of Finance, Lafontaine was a major bogeyman of UK Eurosceptics. He is famed for always wearing a waistcoat, with two large, front pockets and five buttons, thus the Oscar Lafontaine Waistcoat.
22.01.2022 Tappering T-shirt 2 sizes too big. Falls perfectly to customise fit look men's t-shirt that fit well and make the wearer look great. Just like jeans, t-shirt are essential wardrobe items that every man needs to own. T-shirt will look terrible if it doesn't fit properly. But how should a t-shirt fit? Glad you asked... Let's talk. * Shoulders making sure that the shoulders aren't too wide. * Sleeve pay close attention to both length and width. Sleeves should end about halfway... between your armpit and elbow, making sure that the sleeves aren't too close to your elbow. This will make your arms look shorter. Sleeves should fit closely around your arms without being too tight. But with this particular customer he didn't want for me to touch the short sleeve, had no choice but to only take off 1.5cm. * Torso - made up of chest, stomach and the hip. Aiming for the fitted look, not too tight but not too loose. If you see tension between your pecks The shirt is too tight. You should be able to pinch about 8cm, equalling 4 cm on both side seams either of your torso. More than that the t-shirt is too loose. * Length can be problematic for short men syndrome is of course the length. Your shirt should go about 5cm past your waistband or the bottom of your belt and it should end right around mid fly. See more
22.01.2022 THE ART OF RUFF MAKING: You will need:- 3m length of 35mm width grosgrain ribbon, or whatever you have at hand... Pins Needles White thread Scissors Ruler or measuring tape Fastenings of your choice, eg Velcro, hooks and eyes, or poppers Preparation Measure your neck in cm. You will get 4 ruffles per cm. Measure the width of your ribbon to check it is 3.5cm. Using your ruler or measuring tape, mark the ribbon at 7cm (or twice the width of your ribbon) intervals. The total amount of ribbon you need will be:- a. Neckband: The circumference of your neck + 6 cm seam allowance. b. Ruffles: The circumference of your neck in cm multiplied by 4, plus 7cm for ties. For example: 37cm neck = 43cm neckband, 155cm ruffles. Hand Sewing Instruction:- 1) Hem the edge of your ruffle ribbon to prevent fraying. 2) Bring the 2 pencil marks together and stitch together, creating a firm base for your ruffles. 3) Bring the next pencil mark to meet the top of your first ruffle. Stitch through both sides of the fold and then stitch again to anchor the ruffle. 4) Repeat ruffle stitching until you have about 7 folds. Tie off the thread. 5) You will now need to secure the folds at the base of the ruffle. Using a new needle and thread, start at the first ruffle and stitch the bottom of each fold to the next so that you create a figure-of-eight profile on the unsewn edge of the ruffle. 6) Continue until you reach the last ruffle. You can tie off the thread here or keep it attached, being aware that you may get your threads tangled. 7) Measure the neck band around your neck and trim the ends either side of the ruffles as necessary. 8) Hem the ends of the ribbon and stitch the ruffles to the neck band. 9) Attach the fastenings of your choice. NB Velcro will give you the most margin for error and allow your ruff to be worn by others with a different neck size. Tips and tricks After a few attempts Megan couldn’t get the neck band to fit the ruffle height, whether this was bad sewing or bad measuring, she cannot tell. In the end she cheated and folded the neck band to fit the ruffles.

21.01.2022 Ladies - DIFFERENT HEEL HEIGHTS: what to bring. Shoes are extremely important when it comes to the finished length on trousers. There are 3 heel height and these heel heights will affect the angle of the foot. Keep in mind that the Trousers will get higher from the ground as the heel gets higher. Always bring two height of heel shoes with you for eg: plus a medium heel or a High Heel. Inside the dressing room put your trousers on, then placed the lower heel on (always wear t...he low heel shoe first). 1) Low Heel - Trousers will need to be shortened so that they are almost kissing the ground. 2) Medium Heel and High Heel - a bit more flexible but keep an eye on the narrow side, because the trousers would sit on the top of the foot and that would push the trousers leg up, causing bunching, which in turn creates bulk and can give the impression the person is bigger than they are. Remember a shorter length is worn if the trousers are not as wide (narrow). The heel height of the shoes will determined the length the trousers should be pinned. Overall pin with the lowest heal first, then try on the shoes with a higher heel. Getting the average length will work if the heel height is not too extreme, otherwise the person may need to consider having different trousers for different shoe height. For Leggings - stove pipe hug the leggings around the ankle, these should be punned above or below the ankle. Narrow width Leg - with jeans they have a narrow width around the base of the leg. Most people want to wear their jeans long, The jeans has been forced over the foot for a long length, but when the person begins walking the jean leg will ride up and bunch around the ankle. It could also bunch at the knee. Got no choice but to wear this width shorter. Bunching around the knee area in thick denim or heavy fabric will be uncomfortable and does give the impression the Jeans are way too big. Flared Leg -The flare base of the hem is wider than the knee or thigh area. This should be below the heel to 1cm from the floor. If it's too long the hem will touch the ground and the hem will fray. Always shorten your Jeans before they are worn. It could take just one time of wearing the trousers/jeans too long for the hem to fray!
21.01.2022 A way of bringing history to life. The many research for the accurate re-modeling the many layers of clothing style. Hook and eyes for fastening and sash around the waist to show of the wealth. Unlike today Tudor men and women dressed in very different styles. We’ve seen how the fashion for men was to accentuate the width of the shoulders and show off their legs. 20.01.2022 The Lounge Waistcoat The Lounge waistcoat was once always a key characteristic of the three piece suit, but today it has been adopted as a popular choice amongst the youth of Britain, such as the style icon Kate Moss and the members of indie band Razorlight who wear them over casual shirts and jeans for a day to day fashionable look.

20.01.2022 Changing rib/trimming (hem casing attachment) to contour waistband techniques. As you can see the rib/Trimming (pre-cut purchased from Spotlight) attached casing is causing a ripple effect and it reminded me of yet another pet peeve of mine. There is a bit of shaping to the bottom edge where the attached casing is sewn, which is why I must un-pick/take the ribbing out and cut my own. Using the same jersey fabric, cut on the bias. A sense of knowing a contour waistband technic...Continue reading

12.01.2022 A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE SEWING MACHINE NEEDLE It is a little known fact that the needle was one of humankind’s first tools. Over the centuries it developed from a simple craft item to the precision tool for modern sewing machines, constantly adapted for new industrial applications and requirements. The use of sewing today does not stop at garments and furnishings, but is equally important for car seats and airbags meeting high technical safety standards. The needle has played ...Continue reading
11.01.2022 Before fashion design was invented as a career, clothing was fashioned by a local seamstress or an anonymous dressmaker. During the 19th century, fashion standards were copied from royalty. Then, a local seamster, by the name of Charles Frederick Worth, came along and changed fashion standards altogether. It is important to note that Charles Worth set up the first fashion house in Paris and became the first designer to dictate style and design to customers.

08.01.2022 The Horse Shoe Sccop Waistcoat The horse shoe sccop waistcoat is designed to be worn with a black tie.
