20.01.2022 Womens Health Week Yesterday we featured one of our young staff members who plays the sport of rugby league at a high level, today during Womens Health Week we highlight Melody, a Sutherland Shire Sharks Football representative player and a member of our Sharks at Kareela staff. Melody has played soccer for more than a decade, which represents a large chunk of her life considering she is now only 19, with her weekly training and the games she participates in on the week...end certainly keeping her fit and healthy. In allowing her to perform at her best on the field, while still having the energy to service the members and guests as a part of her role at Sharks at Kareela, Melody also follows a sensible diet and healthy eating plan. Young, fit and vibrant, Melody is another example of a young lady powering on, living a productive and healthy lifestyle, during Womens Health Week

07.01.2022 *Club Crew and Womens Health Week* Meet Ally Weir... Her days and some of her nights are spent catering for members and their guests at Sharks at Kareela, but dont be fooled by Ally Weirs smiling and welcoming demeanour. Ally, who plays for the Sharks Tarsha Gale Cup under 18s team and two weeks ago made her debut for the senior Sharks squad in the NSWRL Harvey Norman Womens competition, goes from friendly, calm and composed in her Sharks at Kareela uniform, to aggressive and competitive when the whistle blows and the game kicks off on the weekend. A fullback-winger who began her footballing career at Burraneer Rugby Club in the Under 12s, Ally tried her hand at Rugby League a couple of years later and hasnt looked back. From the Tarsha Gale Cup, to the senior level, to her club football with the Como club, Ally puts in the hard work on the training field and is on an upward trajectory with more rugby league success very much in her future. So in celebrating Womens Health Week, weve offered this brief profile of Ally, a newcomer at Sharks at Kareela having started in a part-time role with us some three weeks ago. Make her welcome and watch out for that sidestep!

02.01.2022 Womens Health Week It was a group which began 30 years ago and is still going strong, but for the Thursday Kareela Ladies Social club it is about a lot more than just the golf. While they certainly enjoy their weekly golfing outings, the Kareela Ladies Social group raise money annually for various charities, last year alone collecting around $4,000 for various charities, they love a trip away and its as much about the exercise, the socialising and the friendships theyve ...made along the way, as it is the pars and birdies. With the health benefits associated with golf why wouldnt they make it a weekly activity, case studies showing that golfers typically burnt a minimum of 500 calories (2100 kilojoules) over 18 holes, with those walking the Kareela course covering well in excess of six kilometres. Although respectfully not revealing the typical age of our Thursday ladies, also explained in the studies were the benefits of golf to balance and muscle endurance in people aged over 50. Add to that the improvements in cardiovascular, respiratory and metabolic health at the same time, and better still, the physical gains reportedly increase with age, all means its never too late to start playing golf! So during Womens Health Week, we give a shout out to the Ladies Social club, a vibrant and community conscious group who frequent our Kareela golf course every Thursday #WomensHealthWeek
02.01.2022 Catch all the NRL action live and loud on the BIG SCREEN this weekend. 01.01.2022 Womens Health Week Monday mornings are a busy time at Kareela with our social groups taking to the course each week and why not when you take into account research which details the physical and mental benefits golf has on people of all ages. Evidence suggests golfers live longer than non-golfers, enjoying improvements in cholesterol levels, body composition, wellness, self-esteem and self-worth" Dr Donald Kuah, a sports and exercise physician at Sydney Sports Med S...pecialists said when interviewed as to golfs health benefits. Researchers reviewed 5,000 case studies and found golfers typically burnt a minimum of 500 calories (2100 kilojoules) over 18 holes, with those walking the course covering in excess of six kilometres. The studies also revealed balance and muscle endurance in people aged over 50 is improved by playing golf and it is also likely to improve cardiovascular, respiratory and metabolic health at the same time, therefore the physical gains increased with age. So its literally never too late to start. Golf gets you outside, it certainly counts as exercise, is a social activity and there are golf courses everywhere, more than 70 in the Sydney metropolitan area alone. So in celebrating Womens Health Week, if youre not already playing like our Monday morning ladies group, maybe get down to Kareela sometime soon for a game of golf. #WomensHealthWeek
