24.01.2022 Set up for success when starting to learn the piano with these simple steps. The best way to start is to start simply! Set yourself, or your child up for success to give learning the piano a red hot go! Tips for a student to play comfortably:... Sitting at a height so that their elbow, wrist and hand are all in line with each other Shoulders should be relaxed, with the arms hanging comfortably They shouldn’t be required to lift their wrist or hand higher than their elbow While it might be tempting to put the keyboard on a kitchen table just to start students who begin learning piano on a seat that’s too low, and/or to far away for their knees to be comfortably under the keyboard find it awkward and difficult to play the notes, which often causes them to feel like they can’t play, and to dislike piano, and they may not realise why. Cushions or folded towels on a chair to raise it to the right height might be a temporary solution, but many children find they slide around. A comfortable chair at the right hight is part of setting your child up for success. Put a if you agree in the comment section below. If you need to purchase an adjustable piano stool for your little piano player, we have some available in the store on our website under the piano lessons menu.

21.01.2022 The longer you practice in 1 session, the better you get is FALSE! While the thought that the longer we practice our piano in one session the better we get, we, in fact, will improve much faster, if we practice for shorter, multiple sessions in a week. You see, will your brain can understand and pick up things sometimes faster than your fingers can, muscle memory requires repetitive movement, regularly.... For example. If Jenny has her lesson on a Monday and practices for 2 hours on a Wednesday, by the time Monday rolls around again, she's having to recap quite a bit in her lesson. It's hard to focus for long periods of time. Particularly for the younger ones (even those of us bigger than 10 ). Johnny though is in the same class on a Monday and then spends 30 minutes four other days of the week, both his mind and his muscle memory retain and perfect that little bit better because the 30 minutes are solid focused practice sessions. Now the times in this post are random times chosen. It's important to find out where your sweet spot is. What's your childs perfect amount of practice time? We'd love to know in the comments below

Here's what I'd really like for my birthday. People to participate in my Play it Forward program, which helps low income families or people doing it tough to start or continue their musical education. From as low as $10. Every bit counts.
