25.01.2022 Grief. Not jolly but often felt at Christmas. This year, say a gentle Merry Christmas to your grief, as the wave of sadness passes over you. Draw it, write it, talk, sing, share memories. Heard - grief will let you feel joy again. Ignored - grief will be more intrusive then leftover turkey at New Year! Make time for your grief.

25.01.2022 Grief. It’s hard to watch someone else grieve. Silently be there. Make cups of tea. Do their washing. Tell them that you are there if they need you. Stay or leave. Sometimes a bit of both works best. Be patient. It’s not about getting over it, but learning to live with it.

22.01.2022 Got problems that need solving?

21.01.2022 Feeling low? Perhaps it's those high expectations.

21.01.2022 Self-Sacrifice. Go the extra mile! Give until it hurts. Put others first! But what happens when the extra mile starts to hurt you? Do you feel guilty when you put yourself first? A balance between giving and getting is possible. What does your balance look like?

20.01.2022 Here's a device you might like to try when you're feeling depleted.

15.01.2022 Weight problems? Hate exercising? Think of it as the gift of movement. Move more, from here to there and back again. Small changes now mean big changes over time. Walk down your hall. Kick a ball. Take the trolley back. Park further away. Trick yourself into moving more. Take small steps. Keep going. Repeat.

15.01.2022 With a pessimistic filter you can avoid pitfalls, disappointments, and protect yourself from harm. But, it stops you enjoying the present and can isolate you from others. What would you have to think if optimism was your filter?

13.01.2022 Having trouble being in the moment? Mindfulness eluding you? Could it be a phone problem?

13.01.2022 Having trouble finding #innerpeace? Just can't find #stillness? Perhaps you're looking in the wrong place.

13.01.2022 Have you examined your ideas and beliefs about yourself lately? Is it time you had a clean out?

12.01.2022 We all know that mindfulness helps everything, right? But what if you’re so worked up you just can’t stop thinking about yesterday and tomorrow? How do you focus on the here and now? If you just read this sentence then you were in the here and now, you did just concentrate on the present! And now you’re doing it again! Keep going! Then repeat! Oh, and remember to breath because being in the moment feels better with oxygen.

12.01.2022 Goals Enjoy the journey.

12.01.2022 Pessimism. Expecting the worst doesn’t stop bad things happening. Instead, it steals enjoyment and fun from your life. Notice when you're being pessimistic. What would you do differently if it was all going to be ok?

07.01.2022 Merry Christmas! Thanks for supporting Sharon Hill Psychology on Facebook in 2017. Hope you've enjoyed the journey as much as I have! See you in 2018. Sharon

06.01.2022 Do you know a man who has lost direction and purpose? Perhaps 'If' by Rudyard Kipling can help. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mi-VFL6obz8

06.01.2022 It’s hard to know which way to go You could stay in the past where all the sadness and loss is. You could focus on the future and all that uncertainty because who knows what could happen. Or you could focus on here and now... just you and me in the present... right now... talking... breathing... calm...

05.01.2022 Procrastination. Maybe I’ll think about starting, but that seems like a lot of effort. I think I’ll text someone instead. Oh, look there's a dog. I need a snack... etc. etc... Antidote: Trick yourself by taking one tiny step in the direction you had intended to go. Repeat...

04.01.2022 Goals Have you gotten off track with your goals? Or given up already? A boat zigs and zags from A to B. It does not go in a straight line. If you're off course, simply change direction and get back on track. If a boat crew can do it without guilt or self-criticism so can you! It is never too late to change course.

02.01.2022 Weight problems? HALT if you are eating too much. Could you be too Hungry? Give yourself the gift of regular nutritious meals. Angry? Identify and say what’s unfair. Lonely? Connect with a friend. Tired? Close your eyes and rest. Ask yourself to H-A-L-T next time you are at the fridge and notice what happens!
