But here’s the deal, if you push more than your ability to recover, you’ll see short term improvements that will eve...ntually flatten out & plateau. Long term progress requires a balance of BOTH training stimulus & recovery for positive adaptations to occur. The smart athlete realizes this & becomes educated in both aspects! . Recovery comes in two forms - what you do in AND out of the gym. . In the gym: use a periodized training program that has heavy, mediums and light intensity and volume days, weeks and months. A wave-like pattern in these factors will allow your body to recover between heavy bouts of training & optimize progression. . Out of the gym: focus on the fundamentals of proper nutrition, sufficient hydration, and optimal movement (not sitting on the couch all day). . 18.01.2022 COVID KILOS? Not here. What have I done differently? Well I am luckier than most and I have a full gym set up at home so when my beloved BJJ got shut down I switched back to more weight training. The day BJJ could re open I was there. Ive since found a happy medium between the two and Ive had a great run of keeping up the intensity but its just over 7 weeks of pushing harder and I need to have a de load week to rest a bit and allow my body to recover a little more. Thank...s to many trips around the sun and lots of that time training Ive become more in tune with my body and recognised the need to drill more and roll less for a couple of sessions .... I have to remember Im here to play the long game (as much as I want it all now ). So who is freaking out about this weeks WEIGH IN WEEK?

Congratulations dark horse Karoline for joining the challenge and giving Britt and Alyce someone to compete against. ... *This video is only 9ish reps but its her second round as I felt she could lock out better than she did in her first round. Dont worry Ill be making her repeat it next week to own it. Amazing strength.

15.01.2022 My gorgeous daughter @zaramccauley has started her journey to the USA today to fulfil her dream of playing College volleyball. Im so proud of her and her commitment to the process. I love her strength of character and desire to test herself in the sport she loves. Im going to miss her like crazy but what a fantastic opportunity for her. Congratulations Zara. Go do your thing.

10.01.2022 Weigh In Week Winner ...... Emma Purvis. Woo hoo congratulations chick. Impressive 2.5% drop in body fat in the past month. Emmas an up and coming personal trainer and has used the past month to experiment with doing the work and going back to basics ie counting calories, minimal alcohol, increasing protein and training harder. And she got the win. Emma isnt the only one who has gone back to basics to get results. August is always a very tough month for fitness goals as... its cold and miserable and everyones just had enough and thats in a normal year but of course this year is worse. Ive got a couple of clients who have had trouble with focus and hence not getting results. That means its time to log everything you do and eat. Gather data about what goes in and out and some serious mindfulness about your headgame. The results are already looking promising. Its very easy to fool yourself but when you document everything theres nowhere to hide and you can easily see where you are going wrong. Its hard work but worth it. See more

10.01.2022 I am a recovery Queen. Sauna, walk around my garden, quick dip in my freezing pool, book and hot bone broth and heat pack on the outside lounge and a good chance Ill fall asleep here for awhile. Love my little sanctuary.
