22.01.2022 WHAT TO EXPECT ON DOMESTIC FLIGHTS DURING COVID-19 While the COVID-19 lockdowns continue, most of us are staying home and are not travelling. But some people still need to travel for work or compassionate reasons, which is why the federal government is subsidising domestic flights for the next two months. Qantas, Virgin Australia, Jetstar and some regional airlines, including Regional Express and Airnorth, continue to operate limited scheduled domestic flights around Australi...a. But its not quite business as usual. Airport lounges are closed, in-flight meals are not being served, there is no in-flight entertainment and strict social distancing rules apply at the airport and on board. Some states and territories have also effectively closed their borders. If youre flying interstate, you may be required to complete a form and go into quarantine for 14 days after arrival. So, what exactly can you expect if you are travelling on a domestic flight in Australia during the COVID-19 pandemic? Middle seats blocked for social distancing Qantas, Virgin Australia are among the airlines that have blocked all middle seats in Economy class to allow for social distancing on board. This generally also means blocking aisle seats in Business class, so that nobody is sitting directly beside another passenger. Regional Express is also attempting to apply social distancing on its flights, in addition to temperature testing at check-in. Although this is not required under any existing regulation, Rex endeavours to space out the seating allocation of all passengers to facilitate social distancing. Unrelated parties will not be assigned seats next to each other where possible, Regional Express National Airports Manager David Brooksby said. In the short term, this is somewhat good news for passengers as it means extra personal space on board. Besides, nobody really likes sitting in the middle seat anyway! But in the medium to long term, if airlines are forced not to sell a third of the available seats on each flight, this will lead to a sharp rise in airfares and an end to the low-cost carrier business model that relies on high load factors. 19.01.2022 TASSIE TRAVEL BUBBLE PLAN... TASMANIAN Premier Peter Gutwein has announced plans to implement safe travel bubbles with South Australia, the Northern Territory and Western Australia, effective from 07 Aug. Additional safety measures will be implemented at the states sea and air ports, including a mandatory health check for every passenger and requirements for arrivals to detail where they had been in the prior 14 days. ... Refusal to take a test will result in mandatory hotel quarantine or repatriation on the next flight. The trans-Tasman TT-Line ferry will continue to operate under current arrangements, with only passengers who have a Tasmanian address, are an essential traveller or are visitors from WA, SA or the NT. Mandatory testing will also be introduced from 31 Jul for essential workers who have been through a designated hot spot in NSW or are from anywhere in Vic. Also from 31 Jul, where hotel quarantine is required, travellers will be charged $2,800 except in cases of extreme hardship. The Tasmanian Premier promised to provide an update on 7 Aug on possible timeframes and dates to relax restrictions with Qld, NSW and the ACT, based on public health advice and the situation in those states and territories. However to be clear we will not be open to them before the 14th of Aug, he added. Creating safe travel bubbles with states who are in as good a place as Tasmania will no doubt be welcome news as a safe first step for our tourism and hospitality sector, he said. If youre interested in booking with me to Tasmania, send me an email. Stay Safe everyone

15.01.2022 TRADITIONAL CUISINE IN NORWAY Have you ever wondered what type of cuisine to expect when travelling to Norway? Heres a brief overview:... SEAFOOD Fish makes up much of Norwegian cuisine. This probably comes as no surprise - after all, youre never far from the ocean in the Land of the Midnight Sun. If youre a fan of fish, youre certain to find something delicious during your visit. The great thing about having fish in Norway is that its guaranteed to be fresh. MEAT Adventurous carnivores will leap at the chance to try reindeer and elk, both of which are fairly easy to find in Norway. In fact, reindeer is among the dishes regularly referenced as one of Norways local delicacies. Lamb is also frequently included in Norwegian cuisine. Frikal, a dish made up of boiled mutton and cabbage served with boiled potatoes, is very popular in the country and has been voted the national dish twice. VEGETARIAN & VEGAN If you dont eat meat or fish, youre likely to have limited options if you head outside the biggest cities in Norway, where youll probably need to supplement your diet with food from local supermarkets. However, both vegetarian and vegan food is increasing in popularity. DELICIOUS DESSERTS You wont want to miss dessert. Indulge in a sweet milk dish called gomme or rmmegrt, which is a sour cream porridge. Follow that with layer cake stuffed with whipped cream and jam and then pick between the pyramid of almond macaroon rings or iron-shaped cookies rolled into cones in classic Norwegian fashion. BEVERAGES The average Norwegian consumes 40 gallons (160 quarts) of milk annually. If you swing by a market, chances are theyll find milk cartons from the two dairy companies, Tine melk and Q melk. For other beverages, opt for the 4.5 percent Norwegian beer or "blande," a cheap drink made from water and soured whey. Aquavit, or akvavit, is Norways famous liquor export, made from potatoes flavored with caraway. Looking for something fancy? The Vinmonopolet (The Wine Monopoly) is the countrys special shops for imported wine and liquor.

09.01.2022 DOMESTIC TRAVEL It is great that we are starting to hear talk from both the Australian Government and Qantas boss Alan Joyce about starting up Domestic Travel once again. This is exciting news for all of us, plus it will be fantastic for Australian Tourism. We have so many wonderful destinations in Australia to holiday - personally I cant wait to get out there!... Amongst my favourites are Hamilton Island, Broome, Kakadu, Tasmania, or heading to the snow! Where would you like to go? ************************************************** Here is an article from Alan Joyce that was released yesterday with regards to Qantas and what domestic flights will look like when they start up again. QANTAS CEO ALAN JOYCE HAS BEEN LYING LOW AMID THE KERFUFFLE OVER RIVAL VIRGIN AUSTRALIAS FUTURE. However, the aviation maestro from Ireland recently took to LinkedIn to share his thoughts on what Australias travel sector will look like by the time people start flying again. Life will be different as we come out of this crisis. Recovering from the economic impacts will take time for most companies and individuals, he wrote. But if this period of isolation has taught us nothing else, its how much we value seeing people and places. And thats why aviation will remain so important. A recent survey of our frequent flyers showed around 85 per cent are keen to travel again once theyre able to. I know our people cant wait to welcome them back on board when the time is right. Joyce said that while theres a lot we dont know, particularly around timing, he outlined three things I think we can be pretty certain of. Here they are, in his own words: 1. It will be competitive The Australian domestic market has huge potential. And for that reason, this is never going to be a one airline town or it wouldnt be one for long. Stiff competition has made Qantas better over the years and we dont want that to stop now. And, frankly, the regulatory pressures on entrenched monopolies tend to make them unattractive. 2. There will be lots of low fares Airlines will be keen to stimulate travel demand to get their people and aircraft back to work and restart their cashflow pipelines, repairing the damage done by the devastating and sudden drop in revenue. Thats good news for consumers because it means plenty of good deals. 3. Domestic travel will start well before international Australia has done a remarkable job of flattening the curve and cutting coronavirus infection rates. We have to be careful not to take the brakes off too early, but restrictions on domestic travel are likely to lift well before international travel. Thats great news for our local tourism industry, with more people holidaying in Australia to start with.

04.01.2022 Trans-Tasman bubble now ‘a long way off’: NZ PM hopes of travel abroad in the near future have been dashed with Victoria’s spike of coronavirus.
