10.01.2022 This post reached over 18,000 people when we shared it in May, but knowing the horse's TNZ is just as important in hot weather as it is in cold. Did you know th...at your horse will probably feel hot before you do? The following information comes from our C Certificate workbook manual. Horses sweat to cool down, but this only works when their sweat comes into contact with the air and/or a breeze (evaporation). Light summer rugs block this natural cooling effect and increase core body temperature. Overweight horses struggle more to cope with hotter temperatures. Old or sick horses may struggle at both ends of their TNZ (ie hotter and colder) and need some assistance and extra care to keep cool on hot days. #horse #welfare #welfarewednesday #manuals #certificates #syllabus #alifewithhorsesstartshere #responsible #riding #management #hotweather #summerdays #science #memberbenefits #notjustriding RSPCA Australia World Animal Welfare

09.01.2022 It is much sadness, but excitement, that I will no longer be operating as Shatarhen Park Equestrian Centre. I have accepted a position to return to my pre-motherhood career of banking. I cannot thank you enough for the support, love, generosity, encouragement and kindness everyone has showed over the past 8 years of operating SPEC. I still love horses, I still love coaching and will continue my involvement with the Penola Pony Club. To those who rode my horses - thank you for... loving them like I do, being so gentle and kind to them! To those who have your own ponies - keep having fun with them and I hope to see you all around local events soon! To the families who committed week in week out, thank you for spending your afternoons, evenings or Saturday mornings with me! I honestly loved every minute of coaching, it never felt like a job and I hope to one day be in a position to do it all over again! Bye for now xxx See more
