24.01.2022 To our wonderful Swim School families, It’s with great sadness to inform you all, that we will temporarily close effective as of 12pm Monday 23rd March 2020. During this time of uncertainty, Shayne Reese Swimming only took it’s guidance and direction on the COVID-19 matter from the relevant expert health authorities, such as the World Health Organisation, the Australian Government Department of Health, the Department of Education and our industry governing bodies the Austra...lian Swim Schools Association and Swim Australia. On Sunday 22nd March, the Premier of Victoria made an announcement that Victoria will be implementing a shutdown of all non-essential activity (including schools) across our state over the next 48 hours to combat the spread of Coronavirus. The advice to keep children at home and safe is a non-negotiable and the wellbeing of our customers and staff is, and always has been, our highest priority. We will continue to be in touch during our closure, and once a start date has been decided for Term 2, we will contact you all. ** Further details have been emailed out to all families ** I’d like to thank you all for the support, smiles and love you have shown us. Please take care of yourselves and your families during these uncertain times. Shayne Reese & Luke Harper Directors Shayne Reese Swimming

20.01.2022 The Adventures of.... Mr Elvis Bubbles Splash. I think I can speak for everyone here when I say we‘ll be happy to see our resident elf Mr Elvis Bubbles Splash be on his way shortly... This week we found him;... Using the photocopier to make copies of his ‘parts’ and post them around the office Then takes refuge in the Cafe lollies Turn our toilet paper into Christmas decorations and hangs it throughout the change rooms, and then use the sink as a toilet Possibly committed manslaughter by repeatedly closing the roller door on his dear elf friend, because she was stealing all the limelight Then he thinks it‘s funny to tear up my diary when it’s the busiest weeks of the year

19.01.2022 Just a quick reminder to let all our Monday families know that there will be no lessons tomorrow, Monday 9th March, due to the Labour Day public holiday. Classes will resume as normal Tuesday 10th March. Enjoy your long weekend

18.01.2022 Wowzers.... It’s been an adventurous week for me!! I started by making the reception area a little more festive by gift wrapping all the cupboards & doors Who had a slushy this week? What did you think of the new flavour?... I found out the hard way to never cross a mermaid Mr Barnarby Backstroke came for a swim. He was no good and I had to perform a Reach Rescue. I always carry a candy cane with me! I got a bit peckish so I raided the cupboards... Salt & Vinegar chips were my favorite! Everyone did an amazing job getting into the Christmas Spirt this week and I can’t wait to tell Santa and the other Elves how wonderful you all are. Merry Christmas Everyone!! Checking out for 2020. - Mr Tinsel Torpedo Toes

14.01.2022 How are we going practicing our breath control techniques at home? This simple & easy-to-do at home activity is perfect for the littlies Mr Ky and Miss Kennedy want to show you how they went last night at bath time Blowing Bubbles & Breath Holding;... make sure the bath is filled to the right height to make it easier to put face in water. practice this before you use soap/shampoo, as that doesn’t taste good & stings the eyes! use verbal trigger words like long slow bubbles, keep blowing!, turn/lift head now etc to help extend breath control & also control head turns. Tip: we want to make sure they’re blowing long & slow bubbles! Not short sharpe bursts! This helps relax their breathing. Tip: for more advanced students, add in head turns to replicate Freestyle breathing techniques. Even lifting forward like you do for breaststroke & butterfly (make sure chin is on the water!). we do not want children holding their breath for as long as possible! Or continuous longer holds without sufficient recovery/rest between each! never leave a child unattended during bath time! Adult supervision is required at all times! Feel free to share in the comments photos/video of your families at home swimming lessons!! Stay tuned for more at home Swimming Tips to help retain those important skills & muscle memory!! #GetTheBestByTheBest #YouCanNeverStopLearning #watersafety #COVID19AU #WeALLSwimTogether

14.01.2022 Happy Mother’s Day to all you beautiful mums out there! I’m sure you’re being spoilt I got plenty of kisses & hugs from these two this morning

Classes will continue as per schedule Tuesday 4th & Wednesday 5th. ... Further information will be emailed to all currently enrolled families, so please keep an eye out for an email (check junk mail). We would like to thank all those wonderful families who supported us these past weeks You all did a fantastic job adhering to the social distancing & hygiene protocols we put in place - well done & thank you Seeing the big smilies & excitement on the children’s faces as they resumed lessons was overwhelming No doubt they’ll be super eager to jump back in soon enough Our staff have gone above & beyond to adapt and stay positive through what has been a challenging time. 13.01.2022 Did anyone see us on WIN News Ballarat last night? Well done Rochelle Kalla It’s exciting to hear that restrictions are starting to ease around the state, and that there’s finally been some mention of swimming pool facilities The safety of our families and staff has always been our first priority so we are working hard behind the scenes to ensure we provide you with a safe environment for when lessons resume shortly

13.01.2022 Can’t wait to see the kiddies back in the water not long to go now....

13.01.2022 Many of our families live or work on farms which have damsor water ways. Water Safety measures & layers of protection must be in place! Research shows that; > Over half (54%) of all dam drownings were found to have occurred on private/residential land. > 43% of these cases were known to be alone when they drowned.... > 71% of these drownings were considered to be non or poor swimmers! Create ‘safe play’ areas for children. Learn vital Swimming & Water Safety skills. Learn CPR and invest in a defibrillator. Never swim or enter the water alone. Community awareness is an essential part in reducing drowning statistics. Tag a friend or family member who have a dam on their property and help spread the message.

12.01.2022 Have you heard the news?? The tide has turned for us and usual lessons will recommence in Term 3 We are SO EXCITED and can't wait to welcome our swim families back to lessons! We have missed you all Please check your emails for the latest information on the safety protocols we have put in place & your Term 3 enrolment details!... 12.01.2022 Check-in time. How are you & your little ones doing? I’m glad to see our friends in Germany are putting our donated pool noodles to good use ... With restrictions slowly lifting, we see students returning to school, families visiting loved ones & in general more smiles on faces Unfortunately no swimming lessons yet but at least the world is heading in the right direction

11.01.2022 It’s Miss Kennedy’s turn this time Meet our little / She wants to show you some simple Cup Pouring techniques you can easily do during bath time. This will help retain important conditioning skills learnt throughout our Neo Splash, Aqua Bub’s & Tiny Tots level’s. Cup Pouring; start with only half a cup of water & slowly work your way up to full cups.... make sure you gain your child’s attention using the cup as a visual cue. use the verbal trigger & key words Child’s Name, Ready, Go!. This is an extremely important part of the conditioning process as these words trigger your child to prepare to hold their breath! pour cup evenly & consistently across the child’s head. make sure you congratulate & provide lots of positive reinforcement, which will relax your child & show confidence. Tip: use bright coloured cups to add visual stimulation. Tip: increase the amount of water as they get more confident or alternatively increase the amount of time it takes to pour - count it out to extend the pour! Tip: once happy & confident let them pour the water over themselves & each other! if your child is crying, distressed or has ingested water you should stop the conditioning process & remove them from the bath & caress them. never leave a child unattended during bath time!

11.01.2022 Time to mask up folks As of Monday (well, we actually started yesterday) you’ll see our staff doing their part in keeping our community safe by wearing masks around pool deck & reception Chris hates wearing her’s, so please make every effort to mention how it fogs up her glasses as you swing by reception ... Plus our ‘in water teachers’ will be using what my son calls ‘Darth Vader’ masks, but more commonly referred to as face shields. Rest assured parents, these shields will be ‘glammed’ up so they are a bit more fun for your little ones. For example Luke WILL NOT BE decorating his shield to look like a Stormtrooper

Without indoor pools open, children will not have the opportunity to practice vital Swimming & Water Safety Skills. Children learn through repetition & experience.... 01.01.2022 Our first week of no lessons How did your family get their swimming fix? Meet our Ky or as he calls himself The Hulk He loves his back star floats & wants to share with you a few tips that you can practice at bath time with your little one. Feel free to share in the comments photos/video of your families at home swimming lessons!!... Back Float (aka Star Float); try to make sure their ears are in the water & head in a neutral position. Make sure they are pushing their bottom/tummy up to the surface. The size of the bath (& your child) might make this tough, but try & spread their legs & arms out ( shape). Make a game of it - get them to count for as long as they can! How long can your child hold a back float? Tip: for the real little ones, only fill up the bath so that they can rest/support their head on the bottom. we never force a child to float on their back. Start with small steps/goals & build into it. never leave a child unattended during bath time! Adult supervision is required at all times! Stay tuned for more at home Swimming Tips to help retain those important skills & muscle memory!! #GetTheBestByTheBest #YouCanNeverStopLearning #watersafety #COVID19AU #WeALLSwimTogether
