25.01.2022 And it's out! Fedoa's 10 tonne lead keel on our custom made trolley it took a bit of grunt to get it going luckily we had a forklift on hand to give it then initial pull. . As you can see it looks very clean and I have to say so does the wooden keel too so we should have it back in with brand new bronze keel bolts. . This keel up restoration project was an incredible project to be apart of whilst working at Moreton Marine in Cowes on the Isle of Wight. Between 2013 and 2016.... . I will try to upload a new photo every day of this project. . Fedoa was an Alfred Mylne designed ketch launched in May 1927 by Bute Slip Co, Port Bannatyne. Length 58'6", Tonnage 22.4 tons, Beam 13ft, Draft 8ft, sail area 1739 sq ft. . Patrick Moreton bought Fedoa at auction back in June 2009 with the dream of restoring her and sailing round the world with his family. However after stripping her out and doing bits of work on her when Patrick could he realised it was too big a project. So in 2012 Patrick sold Fedoa to a new owner who was looking to restore her and because we knew the boat already he agreed that we would get the contract to restore her. So in June 2013 we started! . The team of Shipwrights assembled to take on this mighty project was Patrick Moreton at the head of the operation although he was unable to work on her often as he had to keep our regular clients happy. Adrian Brooks, Simon Miskin, Paul Graves and myself as the Shipwrights working on her. We were also joined for a year by our apprentice Ryan Williams. . 24.01.2022 Great weather at the #sanctuarycoveboatshow And the Maritimo boats did not disappoint! Especially the brand new design of the Maritimo X50. If you are heading to the Boat Show this weekend I highly suggest you check out the Maritimo boats they have 4 on display. Overall the day has been really good looking around all the different boats, products and supplies stalls.

23.01.2022 A better view than my last post where you can see some lovely new timber with the original timbers of Fedoa. Poor Charles the blue Hoover didn't make it through the Fedoa restoration project, we worked him too hard. . 22.01.2022 And we are away! Fedoa's 10 tonne lead keel being wheeled out from underneath her! We can have a proper look at her original wood keel and look at the condition but from first glance it looks really good we are going to spline a couple of cracks and give it all a good clean up but then we will set about bedding it back on with some lovely red lead putty! . 19.01.2022 Fedoa really starting to take shape with the brand new Iroko planks with the original teak planks above!

19.01.2022 This photo really shows some old vs new timber on Fedoa, new Rabbet line, new oak futtocks and laminated Iroko ribs. Original teak planks and looking through this starboard side you can see some of the original frames on her port side. Fedoa is really starting to take shape, my next photo will be progress of removing her original decking along with more recent plywood and fibreglass sheathing. . 15.01.2022 Fedoa is really starting come together at this point. 90% of all the new planks are in place. We have completely re-fastened all futtocks and ribs throughout the boat and have for the most part replaced all the deck beams that needed replacing and kept all the originals that we could. We are almost ready to start putting some bulkhead in place and make a start on putting the new deck on! . More to follow soon! We were also joined for a year by our apprentice Ryan Williams. .
