25.01.2022 C O L L A B O R A T I O N :: Well that was fun!!! I absolutely LOVED working on this collab today with the amazing The Catering Department ... Working with these guys is an absolute blast :: Their lemon-inspired flavours - in stunning little sweet bites and my styling, all with a quirky, opulent theme... 20.01.2022 A L L I N A D A Y . . . :: It’s hard to describe exactly what an event manager does but suffice to say it involves long hours, multi-tasking (think laptop in the site office, cable-ties in your pocket, and possibly gumboots on your feet!), juggling and a whole load of problem solving. :: It’s a job not many would love, but one some of us thrive on. The constant pressures from here, there and everywhere, being at the beck and call of the weather gods and the forever-h...astening countdown of the ticking clock... after all, you can’t really postpone an event and say ‘sorry guys, we’re not quite ready for you to arrive today, please come back tomorrow’ ... can you?! :: Saying that every event is different is the understatement of the century and honestly, that’s what I love most about them... From the concept development phase, to planning the attendee experience, designing the styling and entertainment all the way to through to analysing the risk assessment, creating the production schedule and being part of getting it all up and running and watching the whole lot come together. It’s like four seasons in one day. :: And Collectors' Plant Fair was certainly no different. Weather-wise it started with rain and ended with glorious sunshine. A pioneer in its concept, this event has heart and soul like no other gardening fair or expo. It’s not about celebrities or media attention, it’s about home gardeners, and plant growers. So last week, a whole lot of plant-lovers got to meet their idols, the humble plant growers, and take home some of the rarest, most treasured plants they’d ever seen. :: But what I believe made this event so special was the team behind it all. Now don’t get me wrong, I’ve worked on AMAZING teams before and made the most fabulous friends doing so, but there was something super-special about this one, and it was the connections that every single crew member had with the organisers, and their personal reasons for jumping on board. :: Firstly my two right-hands... Gabe Hair and Jodie Saarinsen. Asking you both to work alongside me was one of my best calls yet. We were fierce, we were fun and we got shit done. All whilst having so.many.laughs. :: And to the most amazing crew who showed up every single day with their keen-to-learn attitudes, smiles on their faces and energy to burn. To think that most had no event experience whatsoever, just a zest for life, a work ethic like no other and a plan to help their mates. The connections and friendships behind this crew was what made it the perfect team. :: And right at the heart of it all, two people that make my little ticker truly sing. Dan Wheatley and Linda Ross not only do you guys bring the blood, sweat and tears required to pull of an almighty event of this scale, you have the heart and soul to nurture both it AND the team working on it, along the way. Why opt for shiny, foil confetti (likely made from micro plastics and metals) for your wedding or celebration when you can so easily make your own from nature? As well as being eco-friendly, it won’t harm local wildlife (like alternatives such as rice or seeds) and won’t spread disease to local plants, like thrown rose petals can. :: Choosing leaf confetti also means you can design the colour blend yourself, and to top it all off, by collecting leaves locally you’ll be creating a personal connection with the natural environment... and why not include a bunch of friends or make it part of your hen’s gathering? All you’ll need is a hole-punch or two and a range of leaves in your desired colour palette. 06.01.2022 M O O D B O A R D S Whenever I start the design for an event, wedding, or space, my mind instantly visualises the mood board coming together. Colour swatches, textural elements and key words or quotes that evoke the design story are thrown around in my head like confetti. It’s pure joy. I truly love that I get to live with this mind; one that thinks in colour, texture, rhythm, shape, space, pattern, balance, and harmony being a die-hard creative, the principles and elemen...ts of design are never far from my thoughts. This stuff is my jam. Telling a story and putting the design together into an inspirational mood board is where I get to see my creative plan come together. It’s where the thoughts start to make sense and the creative elements begin to fit beautifully like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. I created this mood board to convey the intended styling concept I had for my fabulous colleagues The Catering Department who had a very cool brief to fulfill and took me along for the styling ride.
