23.01.2022 It's Scenery Sunday! Today's photos are of Warkworth Castle, its ruined walls and courtyard, and a beautiful view from a window in the keep itself. The Castle ruins are located in Warkworth, Northumberland and historians are still unsure as to who and when the castle was first founded and built. It is believed that Prince Henry of Scotland, the 12th century heir to the Kingdom of Alba, is responsible, however, the keep was not built until two centuries later by Henry Percy the 1st Earl of Northumberland! Warkworth Castle has seen and been visited by many monarchs and was a key area in many wars and battles. Along with the town of Warkworth, it occupies an area next to the River Coquet, which you can see in the photograph winding its way out into the open sea. Have you seen any castles in your travels? Tell us about them!

21.01.2022 For Scenery Sunday (or should we say Wednesday? ;) ) we have a video of an impressive storm looming over Paris. This video was shot from the Eiffel Tower and gave us a front row seat to some spectacular lightning. We were also a little concerned as we were technically standing in one of the largest lightning rods in the world, not to worry though, we were perfectly safe in the tower! We love storms at Sheedyart, do you have your own footage of lightning or thundering clouds? We'd love to see it!

16.01.2022 It's Scenery Sunday! Here's a special one for the history enthusiasts or those who love Italy. :) Here we have a shot of the Temple of Apollo in Pompeii and looming in the distance is the infamous Mount Vesuvius. Sadly this area was closed off to the public during our visit, so attempting to get a good shot with a clear view of the volcano in the background was pretty much impossible, but we did our best. We saw as much of the old city as we could in the limited time we had a...nd learned much about the people who lived there, including that they ate out more often than they did at home! There were remains of public eating places everywhere that many guides jokingly referred to as "Pompeii's McDonalds". We also saw the plaster casts of some of the people and animals that died there, and the burns and molten scars left behind on the building's walls when Vesuvius had unleashed its fury. It was an eye-opening and sad experience, but certainly one that's worth it.

02.01.2022 It's Wildlife Wednesday! Today we have a photo of a small herd of Sable Antelope. You can find these beautiful antelope roaming the savannah and grasslands of East and South Africa. Did you know when Sable Antelope are threatened by a predator that they often confront them? They use their incredible horns in defense and there have been many confrontations where they have succeeded in fending off big cats! Do you have your own photos or video of antelope or other similar species? Share it with us!
