24.01.2022 Weighing Merino lambs at weaning. In this situation the lambs were drafted from their mums. Then the lambs come up on a VE Machine and are given. Drench, 2nd vaccine of 5 in 1 and a OJD Vaccination to the ewe lambs. The lambs( now weaners) come off the end of the VE Machine and straight into the Gallagher Auto Drafter where a weaning weight and which mob of ewes they are born from is recorded against their eID tag. Important information to help help make future decisions. We processed 1700 weaners in the day. A day well spent. Thanks to the Maslin’s at Caragabal West for their hospitality and support. #sheepmatters #eid #gallagher #merino

22.01.2022 More fleece weighing. Great country, great sheep, top hosts. Bonanza Merinos. #sheepmatters #eid #merino #bonanzamerino

21.01.2022 A Mob of #merino ewes and lambs leaving the yards with #smartshepherd collars on. In total 2897 ewes and lambs ( 1217 ewes, 1680 lambs, 8 mobs) had collars put on and paired to the sheep’s ( lamb and ewes) eid tags at this clients farm. It took 10 hrs to put on the collars, or 290 hr / 4.8 collars per minute. We did it over 1 x7 hr day and 1x3 hr afternoon. These collars will come off and be read, with pedigree reports ready in 7 days after collars went on. The same collars w...ill go back on 900 ewes and their lambs ASAP. Powerful information for clients in their breeding program to understand maternal pedigree information. Thanks to the team at Bluegate, Moulimien for their support and #robersonpregnacyscanning service support. #smartshepherd #sheepmatters #eid #maternalpedigree #merino See more

17.01.2022 Great day weaning at Caragabal West. Big healthy merino weaners. #sheepmatters #merino

13.01.2022 Wet and drying ewes at lamb marking is a simple but important job to do. At #sheepmatters we believe that if a client spends time and effort on getting a ewe pregnant and she didn’t rare a lamb, then she is one of the most expensive ewes in your business. They need to go. Here I am checking udders on 3200 ewes while lamb marking is happening at the same time. I have set up a Tepari sheep handler, been controlled by a Gallagher TSI working in with a True Test reader. I am r...ecording information against the ewes eid tag if she kept or lost the lamb and also putting a class against the ewe. All ewes are a default keep, but I change it to a cull due to such things as broken mouth, bad feet, deformed udder, cancer etc We are also recording a body weight. Good decisions made #sheepmatters #eid #gallagher ##tepari #truetest #efficientewe See more

12.01.2022 Got the green tag ewes (16 months old) in over the weekend. Some examples of the wools on the ewes at 9 months growth. They’ll be shorn this week. A lot of 90 to 100 mm in length. Have done really well considering the first 4 months was dry as a chip. Pitty the wool market is crap!

11.01.2022 Lamb Marking at Holbrook. Top even line of lambs at 7 weeks of age. Good decisions been made = increasing productivity. Thanks to Col Geddes for your hospitality and support. #sheepmatters #productivesheep #eid

09.01.2022 A easy, yet key Managemant tool is to wet and dry your ewes at lamb marking. If you scan and have identified all the pregnant ewes, it is a free lunch then to check if the ewe has actually reared a lamb. You need to feel each udder. First clue is if there is an udder, but then feel for warmth in the udder. This one in the video was cold, and on closer inspection she has a bacterial infection, and so is classed out. Other tips that ewes aren’t doing the job, are dirty teats, e...nlarged tears, lumpy udders and are expressing clear liquid ( not milk) The ewes that don’t raise a lamb(s) are very expensive ewes. If you practice this every year and sell those ewes, this will help to mark increased lambs to ewes joined. Smart decisions made. Thanks to everyone at Warranboo, Holbrook. #sheepmatters #productivesheep #eid See more

09.01.2022 Frosty start to weaning of 1st x lambs at Jaffa, home of #sheepmatters. From ewes joined ( cull merino ewes based on reproduction and wool) we weaned 118% Things are looking good

07.01.2022 A happy little lamb, proudly showing off the Smart Shepherd collar she got to wear for two days at my first SS job of the season.

07.01.2022 Using #eid is a powerful tool to understand the range of performance in your sheep. Collected fleece weights from maiden #dohnes ewes. After years of drought it is extremely important to ID which sheep are dragging the chain in production while having a high supplementry feed cost. Also was great to help set up the client to auto draft weaners on sex and and weight. Crops are looking awesome,....about time! Thanks to the Evans family at Nertherby , Walgett for their hospitali...ty and support. #sheepmatters #eid #dohne #productivesheep See more

06.01.2022 Another time well spent with a Sheepmatters client collecting performance data on their breeding merino ewes. Collecting individual fleece data using eID is a smart way to help understand what the ewes are producing ( or not)under the same conditions. Thanks to Bonanza Merinos for the great hospitality and support. Good decisions made. #sheepmatters #bonanzamerinos #eid #merino #gallagher #productivesheep
