23.01.2022 The Hamilton Pastoral & Agricultural Society is saddened to hear of the passing of Dr Geoff Handbury AO. Dr Handbury was a long time supporter of Sheepvention and the Hamilton P&A Society of which he was an Honorary Life Member. His support of the Sheepvention Fashion Parades and Young Designers Competition was a testament to his passion for supporting young people and the wool industry. He will be missed.

16.01.2022 Sheepvention Rural Expo 2020 has been CANCELLED. The Hamilton Pastoral and Agricultural Society Executive met via teleconference on April 1st 2020 to discuss the ability to hold Sheepvention amid the current COVID-19 pandemic. The Executive are extremely disappointed to inform our members, exhibitors, sponsors, suppliers and attendees that Sheepvention is cancelled for 2020. Given the uncertainty in our current environment, it is impossible to continue planning for, and contr...ibuting financially to, an event that is unlikely to be held. The amount of temporary infrastructure required for Sheepvention would have meant we needed assurance that the mass gathering bans and closure of state borders would be lifted by the end of June. This confirmation would have been required by the end of this month. This isn’t possible given the orders that have been put in place by State and Federal Governments. We are asking all our members to still renew your memberships if you haven’t already done so. Renewals were sent out in February. Memberships will be for a two year period and will include the 2021 Sheepvention. This would help the Society greatly with their cash flow given the total loss of income from hiring of the Showgrounds, Exhibition Centre and of course Sheepvention. You can also sign up electronically at www.hamiltonshowgrounds.com.au Any member of the public is welcome to join. We will be contacting our stakeholders electronically to inform them of this decision, and the impact for current and future arrangements. Our Office is currently closed but staff have access to emails from home and our message bank will be checked regularly. Our best form of contact is email at [email protected] if you need to get in touch. With two years to plan we expect 2021 to be an amazing Sheepvention!

13.01.2022 Sheepvention tried something different this year! And, as almost everyone would know invited The.Naked.Farmer to open our event. Mental health in rural communities is a difficult topic to broach and the fact that suicide rates for Australia's farming men are double that of the general population speaks to the problem. This led to some local lads bearing all on the front of the Hamilton Spectator in the name of rural mental health. The whole point is getting your gear off cer...tainly gains people's attention and starts the rhetoric that all too often isn't discussed. The image of five blokes in the nude in the sheep yards seemed to evoke responses from shock and offence to support and congratulations from the wider community. What it also did was garner exactly what The Naked Farmer's (aka Ben Brooksby) campaign has set out to achieve. Ben Brooksby recently told us that he "got many great comments back about being at Sheepvention and people telling me how it started conversations on the way home in the car about mental health. Which is incredible to hear. I had one young lady say to me that on the way over they were talking about The Naked Farmer and then they talked about mental health and it was the first time her dad had ever spoke about it. It really shows the impact you have made on the community. Thank you!" And to Ben we say "Thank you!" for setting an example for how we all should be.
