24.01.2022 Training tips 1.1 Resource guarding: Manifestation Growls when you approach food bowl Pushes in between you... so cute as a puppy but not good post adolescence.... Basically give a higher value reward than the one the dog is guarding. Fortunately for us Labradoodles are usually food orientated so good quality treats are the go. Don't forget to reduce kibble at meal times when you use a lot of treats. Food bowl, start by throwing treats into the bowl, then put them beside the bowl. Finally put your dog into a sit reward them and take the bowl. Go through each stage slowly. Pushing in between people.... Put the dog into a sit and reward. Remember persistence, kindness and positive reinforcement is the way to go

19.01.2022 Training 1.3 Dog communication Dogs are non verbal communicators and contrary to popular belief don't understand verbal communication. They are, however much better than us humans at observing and reacting to body language. Using the acronym TEEMS T-- Teeth E-- Ears... E-- Eyes M-- Mouth S-- Stance Interpreting it: TEETH .. some dogs smile and bared teeth in this situation are not threatening, however full interpretation in conjunction with the rest of the body language is necessary. Full on bared teeth are menacing and this dog should be avoided EARS.. Pricked up alert Neutral dog is relaxed Flat to the head, dog is frightened and therefore EXTREMELY UNPREDICTABLE EYES.. Wide open showing the whites of the eye (Whale Eye) the dog is very uncomfortable in this situation and if possible you should stop what you're doing to the dog. I understand this is not possible at a trip to the vets, say. MOUTH.. neutral , this dog is relaxed. Drawn back the dog is letting you know he is uncomfortasble and you should avoid him STANCE.. Tail up, rigid body posture. Could be preparing to attack. Relaxed, tail neutral, the dog is happy Tail between thr legs and cowering. This dog is scared and EXTREMELY UNPREDICATABLE AVOIDING CONFRONTATION WITH AN AGGRESSIVE DOG. Yoiur dog will know better than you what to do. YOU MUST NOT INTERACT WITH THIS DOG IN ANY WAY DO NOT SPEAK OR SHOUT, even to say NO Look after your hands and fingers.CROSS YOUR ARMS IN FRONT OF YOU WITH YOUR HANDS IN FISTS TURN AWAY FROM THE DOG AND DO NOT MAKE EYE CONTACT WITH IT This advice will significantly reduce your risk of being bitten and I recommend you go through a drill with your family in this

16.01.2022 Training tip 1.2 Jumping up and how to stop it This is very cute at the puppy stage, but it needs to be addressed before your 20kg+ dog launches itself at you or your visitors. When your puppy jumps up at you:... Don't say anything, not even no or ahh ahh Turn away from the puppy. They will soon get bored with no attention. Once all 4 paws are on the floor, reward your puppy. Do this consistently every time your puppy jumps up.

15.01.2022 3 weeks old today. Whelping box converted to weaning pen. Some are more adventurous than others.

09.01.2022 Training 1.4 Conditioning to a marker. What does this mean? The marker is something that you select, ususally a word like 'GOOD', 'OK', 'YES' or a clicker. When puppies leave me to go to a new home they have started conditioning to a marker with 'GOOD BOY/GIRL' followed by a treat. The progression from this is to gradually stop the treats but always use the marker. As with all training, consistency and timing is very important
