25.01.2022 Mainline now clear for steam trains to return to Sheffield next weekend

25.01.2022 The Hunslet came out to get the cab roof removed for sandblasting and Alan prepares the boiler for a coat of paint today.

24.01.2022 GOOD NEWS STORY #18 Sheffield Steam & Heritage Centre Sheffield Steam & Heritage Centre have been slowly working away at the installation of the Dulverton Plat...form. It looks a bit of a mess now, but theyre sure it will look spectacular soon! The below photo shows the first passenger train to stop at the Dulverton Station in many years albeit in a temporary location. Howard Mulvey who rescued the station from Dulverton and took it to Lorinna was fireman for the day with driver Peter Martin. Brenton Wheare who is our guard gives the green flag! (The photo was taken before COVID-19 social distancing.) "The station will be positioned on the north east corner of our grounds on an island platform which will allow two trains to pass at the station on the busy weekends," said Mr Chris Martin, Chairman of Sheffield Steam & Heritage Centre. "My wifes family the Coles, managed the station in the TGR days at Dulverton when it was the Post Office, so it wonderful to preserve this piece of family history and for it to return to being an important part of our community," said Mr Martin.

24.01.2022 The new set of points are taking shape

22.01.2022 A shot from last weekend - the heritage timber industry display points are nearing competition. Working bee this Saturday will focus on continuing the loop line so that the platform position can be fixed. Steam train is running this weekend. We are always looking for volunteers if you feel like assisting.

21.01.2022 A bit more done on the platform

20.01.2022 An interesting shot taken off a video on pause! Not sure of the year. The Fowler Traction engine is on the float being delivered to the Don Railway then picking up the Hunslet I suspect on its way to Hobart and Ida Bay!

20.01.2022 LOCOMOTIVE 3801 REVEALED! At 11.00am today, we were due to be proudly celebrating the return to service of 3801 at a special relaunch ceremony at Sydneys Ce...ntral Station. Whilst recent global events have prevented the ceremony, our team have worked hard to finish the locomotive and were all very proud to reveal it to you digitally today! A big congratulations to all our volunteers and staff who have contributed to this project over many years. 3801 - a legend of steam - earned its status as a national icon against often challenging circumstances. Its original entry to service in 1943 occurred under the cloud of World War II, and the resultant supply-chain interruptions and economic-austerity measures. Nevertheless, when the locomotive steamed out of the workshops and triumphantly onto the NSW rail network, it changed express train travel for decades and captured the imagination of a whole generation of people. For now, locomotive 3801 will be socially isolating like the rest of us, but it will be here after this crisis passes . . . and we cant wait to bring it to you then. Please remember The NSW Rail Museum is temporarily closed until further notice. Please do not travel to Thirlmere to attempt to see 3801 as it wont be publicly accessible or visible. Stay safe everyone!

20.01.2022 A big day for the Dulverton station project with the inside rail connected and dogged. Both tracks are completed over the access to the platform so the north platform wall can be completed and the station placed. The Krauss finished its last day of muralfest running. Thanks to all involved!

17.01.2022 We steamed locomotive 3801 on the loop line today for a special promotion video and some photographs, before putting the engine to bed for the time being. Over... the coming weeks we look forward to bringing you some special scenes and stories of 3801 to keep you entertained during these challenging times. See more

17.01.2022 Yesterday afternoon/evening six truck/utes fitted this years crop of oats in one trip. The blisters are back for the not so regular labourers who did the work ...but thankfully no where near as bad as previous years where the team was half the size of this years! In two weeks this will again be the very rare scene of steam powered threshing, straw pressing and chaff cutting. We would love to hear if any groups are still doing this with steam in the Southern Hemisphere!

16.01.2022 When the ute mounted tanks are dry and there is an opportunity to take on water - the 1928 Marshall Sons and Co roller, built in Gainsborough, lifted water out... of the stream dropped it to the bucket via the tap and injector tap - then the Salisbury lifted from there! Has to be better than a bucket line! See more

Also a photo of Terry Dooley leading the junior program getosome work done on Tinkerbell. We are looking to this year’s participants getting ATHRA qualifications when the ATHRA system is finalised. Only two lengths of rail needed to complete the island platform loop. Thanks to all those who are assisting with this work! Treloars are due in the next week to finish the platform.

05.01.2022 LOCOMOTIVE 3801 STEAMS AGAIN! On Saturday 28 March, we had the pleasure of steaming locomotive 3801 for the first time since receiving its shiny new coat of p...aint.
