17.01.2022 To all the wonderful clients of the Shelley Veterinary Clinic, We would like to reassure you that our intention is to remain available to help you and your pets throughout the COVID-19 outbreak. Our primary focus is to keep both you and our staff safe whilst continuing to care for your pets. If you are on home quarantine or wish to minimise your contact, we will work with you to find new ways to provide care for your animals. These include:... - Concierge service where we meet you at the front door of the clinic, and we attend to your pet whilst you wait in the car - House calls where our staff members will examine your pet outside your home - Taxi service to collect and bring your pet back to the clinic for treatment - Complementary delivery service for food, medications and over-the-counter products will be available on some days of the week to surrounding suburbs - Video consultations and associated prescription medications may also be available. For those of you still able to visit the clinic, please be assured our already exceptionally high levels of cleanliness have been lifted further, with regular disinfection of consult rooms and waiting areas. We are also trying to reduce movement within the waiting room so upon your arrival you will be ushered into a consultation room. We ask that wherever possible only one person attends the clinic with their pet, and when you are in the clinic please be mindful to practice social distancing. Thank you, and please continue to take good care of yourselves, each other and your furry families during this difficult time. The team at Shelley Vets

16.01.2022 In light of recent updates regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, we have now implemented even tighter policies to follow social distancing guidelines. We remain open to serve the local community and kindly ask that our clients work with us to deliver the safest environment possible for you and our staff. This includes: - PLEASE CALL AHEAD: all consultations continue to be by appointment only (no walk-ins). Park your car in one of the bays in front of the clinic and either call us ...on 94571008 or signal from the outside. One of our staff will come out to collect your pet(s). All cats and rabbits must be in carriers, dogs will be leashed and brought into the clinic. At this stage our veterinarian will communicate with you via phone or at a safe distance outside to obtain a history and discuss any concerns. Once all issues have been addressed and a full physical exam performed, any necessary tests carried out and medications dispensed, clients will be able to pay their bill over the phone or via EFTPOS machine from their car. Pets will then be brought out to the parking area and transferred safely to the owner - RESPIRATORY ILLNESS: if you are showing symptoms of COVID-19, please call to reschedule or identify a healthy friend/family member to bring your pet to our practice in your place - MEDICATION AND FOOD COLLECTION: please call ahead to let us know what you need and we can bring it out to your car. You will be able to pay either before arrival, over the phone or at the time of collection. We are also offering a complementary delivery service on some days of the week to those in the local area if you cannot leave your home. As a team of compassionate professionals, we promise to do our very best to keep our doors open, our team healthy, and our clients and patients completely and lovingly attended to throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. We sincerely thank you for your understanding and cooperation. The team at Shelley Vets

16.01.2022 First up is the incredible Tina! Many of you will know Tina’s smiling face as she has been an integral part of the team for the past 3 years. She is the queen of organisation and we joke that one of her favourite past times is putting blankets on resting animals just in case they’re cold... When asked why she loves being a vet nurse she replied Because we have the best clients, the best patients, the best clinic and the best staff (who are like a second family)!

11.01.2022 To the valued clients of Shelley Veterinary Clinic COVID-19 UPDATE We continue to remain open during the outbreak of COVID-19 but as the situation evolves we are instituting some policies to keep both you and our staff safe. We know that the aim at this stage is to try to limit the stress this could potentially place on our friends in the human medical world and to reduce the risk to the members of our community that may be more susceptible to the more severe presentation of ...COVID -19. We are asking clients who are sick (with respiratory disease, regardless of international travel) or clients who have potentially been exposed to or have tested positive to COVID-19 to NOT bring their pets into the clinic. Please call us on 9457 1008 and we will make alternative arrangements to see your pet. If you are on home quarantine or wish to remain home, email/video/picture consultations, and associated prescription medications may be available. We can accommodate certain types of assessments, particularly ongoing conditions for established clients and patients, but cannot guarantee this avenue for all patients. An in-person physical exam yields much more information to our veterinarians and team members. We can also arrange a taxi service for your pet if they need to be examined or treated in hospital. The Department of Health now stipulates that it is mandatory to self -quarantine (14 days) if you have arrived on an international flight. If you are in this situation, please let us know prior to making an appointment and we will work with you to have your pet seen. Our pets: Infectious disease experts and multiple international and domestic human and animal health organisations agree that there is NO evidence at this point to indicate that pets become ill with COVID-19 or that they spread it to other animals, including people. The primary source of infection remains human to human contact. As always, careful hand washing and other infection control practices can greatly reduce the chance of spreading any disease. In addition, in clinic we have taken several steps to ensure maximum protection of our clients and staff, including additional anti-viral cleaning and disinfecting. We are doing our best to stay abreast of current developments. We understand there is a lot of information (and misinformation) floating around. Updates can be found at: https://ww2.health.wa.gov.au/ https://www.ava.com.au/coronavirus/

04.01.2022 Some very useful advice from the Australian Veterinary Associations Behaviour Group about how to help your pet transition through this difficult time: The COVID 19 pandemic is disrupting our routines and this affects our pets- in some good and some not so good ways. To reduce anxiety to our pets, we suggest the following: Pets daily lives should be kept as routine as possible. Continue their regular walking routine where safe to do so while ensuring social distancing... is maintained. Dogs can still gain the benefit of physical exercise and mental stimulation without leaving the house or yard through games such as fetch, chasing a toy or hide and seek. Pets on behaviour medications, as with any ongoing medication, should continue to be given to them as normal and not be stopped during this time. Everyone needs a break from the people they live with at times and this includes pets. If you are home with your pets and children, remember to give your pets a break from the kids if the pet wants it. This may just be a chance to lie in another room or a have a rest outside. Make it a family rule that if the pets are on their bed (or other designated place) they are having a rest and must be left alone. If you find working at home difficult with your pet, consider restricting them from the room where you are working. A puzzle toy or device that rewards them with treats or a chewing item may help settle them. While you are working at home, remember to take breaks- your pets are perfect at helping with that! 02.01.2022 Thank you to all our clients for your positive response to the measures weve introduced to help manage the risk of COVID-19. Weve recently received further information about cats that we would like to share with you. A small recent study suggests that cats may be able to acquire COVID-19 and transmit it from cat to cat. We are therefore going to be taking further precautions when dealing with cats. These measures will include: Asking whether our feline patients have come ...into contact with anyone testing positive for COVID-19 Postponing non-essential procedures while a cat that has had contact with a COVID-19 positive person clears quarantine For those cats who have had contact with a COVID-19 positive person that require urgent medical attention, they will of course be seen, but please understand our staff will need to wear PPE. We need to emphasise that this is a small isolated study and the findings are still to be peer reviewed. The veterinary industry does not yet have the means to readily test cats for COVID-19 in clinic, hence the need for us to take extra precautions in dealing with all cats at this time. To date there has been no evidence that dogs can transmit COVID-19 to other dogs. There is also currently no evidence that transmission can occur from cats or dogs to humans. As before, please continue to wait in your vehicle and call or signal to staff when you arrive at the clinic. We will collect your pet and any relevant details from you, and attend to your pet inside our clinic while you wait in your car. We will return your pet to you outside and discuss any findings and treatment plans. Payment can be managed either by EFTPOS in the carpark, or over the phone. Please let us know if there is any risk that you or your pet may have come in contact with a person testing positive for COVID-19. Thank you once again for your ongoing understanding. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. The team at Shelley Veterinary Clinic
