23.01.2022 We are just reminding everyone that in this current state of uncertainty it has never been more important to have a valid will and have people appointed as your attorney and guardian under an enduring power of attorney and enduring guardian. Unlike lots of other legal documents, wills require a wet signature from 2 witnesses for them to be valid. Appointments of enduring power of attorney and enduring guardian need solicitor certificates to state that in the opinion of the ...solicitor, the appointer has the legal capacity to make those appointments. Therefore, this must be done face to face. At this point in time we are still busy visiting our clients in their homes and preparing wills, powers of attorney and enduring guardian documents. We are however currently experiencing an increased volume of people wanting to get these documents prepared as soon as possible in case we are forced into lockdown. We still have a limited number of appointments available this week if anyone would like to book one, please give us a call on 0488717173 and we will do our best to accommodate you while it remains safe to do so. Obviously, this may change at any moment, so while we are currently still taking appointment bookings into April, these may need to be postponed if further restrictions to our movements are made. Please know that if you would like to book an appointment we are doing our utmost to protect our clients and ourselves by adhering to social distancing protocols and maintaining vigilant hygiene practices in our day to day lives to reduce the risk of contracting and spreading COVID 19 to our clients. All clients will be also contacted by phone to confirm prior an appointment and they will be asked a series of questions about their recent travels, contact with people who have recently travelled and their current state of health before we attend. 13.01.2022 A MESSAGE FROM LAKE ILLAWARRA POLICE DISTRICT COMMANDER, SUPERINTENDENT DEAN SMITH This health crisis is nothing like anything we’ve ever experienced, and I can... understand members of our community are anxious. Our officers are conducting proactive and high visibility patrols across Lake Illawarra Police District to make sure people in public places are sticking to the social distancing guidelines and are not in contravention of any ministerial directions or public health orders. Our Police are here to make sure that people are as safe as possible, but I want to assure you police are also committed to using all the powers available to us to enforce all COVID-19 related public health orders and play our part in stopping the spread of this virus. I am encouraged to see most members of the community are taking this situation seriously and heeding the social distancing advice of the government. However, disturbingly, our officers have already responded to a number of reports of breaches of self-isolation by members of the community. This places others at risk, it is irresponsible and we will take the appropriate action. Police HAVE the powers we need to enforce the Public Health Act, and as of midnight (00:00 Thursday 26 March 2020), we have ADDITIONAL powers thanks to new legislation put in place by the NSW Government. Police can now issue a Penalty Infringement Notice, or an on-the-spot fine, for the offence of not complying with a ministerial direction or a public health order. This on the spot fine is $1000 for individuals and $5000 for businesses. I want to assure the community we WILL be using this power. This means if someone is ordered to self-isolate and they do not comply, or if people do not adhere to social distancing rules, police WILL respond and take the appropriate action. Ministerial Directions we will be enforcing include: Self-isolation of diagnosed persons Self-isolation of incoming travellers Mass gatherings and social distancing rules Closure of social gathering places (pubs, clubs and restaurants) This new power is in addition to the options that were already available to us a person may also be issued with a Court Attendance Notice with a penalty of up to $11,000 or 6 months imprisonment if convicted. The course of action taken will be assessed by responding police on a case-by-case basis. What the community can be assured of, is that police WILL intervene if members in the community do not comply. The penalties are heavy significant fines and even jail time. These restrictions are in place for a reason for the protection of yourselves and each other. I also wanted to reassure you the NSW Police Force is well prepared to protect our citizens and continue our law enforcement capability throughout this pandemic. Police last week launched Operation Coronavirus state-wide to guide our response. We have highly specialised officers providing practical and logistical support to our 17,000 strong workforce as they respond to this crisis. Our presence in and around supermarkets, Centrelink and related service hubs will continue to ensure that public safety is maintained. Over the weekend, we moved to ensure people could report non-compliance with public health orders through Crimestoppers. This has been well received, and I want to encourage people to use this service RESPONSIBLY, and help us reduce the spread of COVID-19 you can report instances online at www.nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. I want to say to those who think they can continue to go about their daily lives as normal these are not normal times. We are faced with a different reality to the one we are used to. Please adapt your routines according to this current and very real threat. Please stay safe and continue to follow the official government advice so police DO NOT NEED to intervene. This is a very contagious virus and we all need to do everything we can to play our part to stop its spread. I also encourage people to access the latest public health orders announced by the federal government by visiting the NSW Health website: www.health.nsw.gov.au (Can also direct to the federal health website: www.health.gov.au). Our community can be assured that the NSW Police Force will continue to work closely with NSW Health and other state and Commonwealth agencies to minimise health risks to the wider community.

11.01.2022 We at Shellharbour Legal Solutions would like to assure everyone that even through these ’interesting’ and somewhat trying times we are still providing our excellent estate planning services. We want you all, especially those more senior amongst us, to be comfortable in the fact that your legal affairs are taken care of and are all in order but that no one’s health is being compromised in the process. We pride ourselves on our personal contact with clients in the setting whe...re they are most relaxed. However, we just want you to understand that in the current climate we all must be more aware of our social contact. As such, if you call us for a consultation there will be a slight change in our methods in order to keep everyone safe. We still aim to provide that personal service that everyone knows and loves. Having said that, our direct one-on-one contact may have to become more limited and before any face to face consultations we will be proactive in asking clients questions about their travel and current health status. We will also be adhering to any up to date advice of the health authorities when conducting a face to face appointment. This is to ensure that everyone stays safe and healthy. As things presently stand, we have experienced an uptick in enquiries for wills, powers of attorney and enduring guardians and we speculate that things might get a little busier over the next few weeks. So, for the time being, while we are still conducting face to face appointments at present, we are closely monitoring the situation and that may change at any time. If you would like an appointment while we are still able to visit you in your home, please give us a call on 0488717173 and we will do our best to accommodate you. See more

01.01.2022 We have just been made aware of a new scam where victims are being contacted by a person claiming to be from ‘Service NSW’ and being told that their tax file number has been used for money laundering. ‘Service NSW’ then transfers the victim to ‘Police’ who then advise them to change their tax file number. Police say that the victim then receives several calls from ‘Crime Stoppers’ displaying the 1800 333 000 number which appears to have been spoofed.... Do NOT engage with these scammers. Be aware and be safe. Please share!
