25.01.2022 Hi Everyone! It's been awhile since we've done a FB post ... we hope you're all staying well ... let's hope it's not too much longer before we can get together on our favourite day of the week and enjoy our Shellharbour parkrun course. We've had a young family (the Oxenfords from Forster, NSW), new to our area, reach out to our event team, looking for any local training groups in the Flinders/Shellharbour area. They are keen to meet up with any early morning groups - for sw...imming, cycling, running. Our suggestions so far have included Kembla Joggers, Blackbutt Runners and the Kiama Tri Club. Please comment below, if you have any suggestions, and welcome them to our parkrun family!

25.01.2022 Other than parkrunning, we know there's one other thing most parkrunners love, and that's STATS! And, here they are ... all the stats from the past year, with huge thanks to our very own Chris "Statman" Fraser!

Robert SCIBERRAS Everyone is welcome to volunteer, and we invite anyone who is interested to give it a go. Our updated volunteer roster is available online and shows the roles available: https://www.parkrun.com.au/shellharbour/futureroster/ Unsure of which role suits you? That's ok, our parkrun volunteer cupid will find your perfect match - all you need to do is ask. Volunteer for parkrun by emailing [email protected] or messaging us in the comments.

22.01.2022 Best wishes and a speedy recovery to Shellharbour parkrun Run Director, AT who had a nasty spill on Monday, resulting in a broken hip and wrist, surgery and screws in both, and a 12 week recovery period on crutches. Sending virtual best wishes from all your parkrun friends and family!

22.01.2022 Get ready everyone, it's parkrunday tomorrow! Thanks to our wonderful volunteers who've put their hand up to bring us tomorrow's event, we look forward to welcoming everyone for another summer parkrun. 20.01.2022 With only two more weeks until our Shellharbour parkrun 6th Anniversary 5km ISO Event, we wanted to give you an update on how it will work: WHAT IS THE EVENT? Our 6th Anniversary ISO event is a 5km walk, jog or run that will take place on Saturday, June 13th 2020.... WHAT TIME DOES IT START? Any time! As it's an ISO event, it can take place any time that you decide during the 24hr period of Saturday, June 13th 2020. WHERE IS THE COURSE? Anywhere you like! You can complete any 5km course you decide upon, in your own time, at any location. HOW IS IT TIMED? You time yourself! By using a stopwatch, GPS watch, smartphone or app and then upload your results - we will provide the details of this soon. WHO CAN TAKE PART? Anyone! People of all ages and all abilities can take part in our 6th Anniversary 5km ISO Event! WHAT DOES IT COST? Nothing! It's completely FREE! Entry is open to everyone, anywhere around the world! WILL THERE BE CAKE AND COFFEE? Of course! We encourage all participants to support local bakeries and favourite cafes during this time by buying their goods and replenishing their energy and fluid levels. CAN I DRESS UP? Absolutely! This year's theme is "Superheroes" - and that could be any one of your favourite heroes from the DC/Marvel comic universe or, considering the current environment, any of our emergency services! CAN I TAKE SELFIES? Definitely! We would love it if you could send a "selfie" that we can save in our special Selfies Album for the event ... please send to: [email protected]! WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO KNOW? This is not a parkrun event! It's an event that celebrates the 6th Anniversary of the launch of Shellharbour parkrun. Completion of this 5km ISO Event does not count towards any parkrun milestone. WHAT ARE THE GUIDELINES? - All participants are asked to comply with all current COVID-19 social distancing laws and regulations. Ensure you adhere to ongoing health advice, restrictions, and laws in your Country/State/Territory. - Participants take part at their own risk and agree to adhere to all Government regulations, traffic rules and laws within the Country/State/Territory in which you participate - Your chosen 5km course should be local to where you live or work and can be any course, including net downhill :-) - Participants are encouraged not to walk/jog/run at Killalea, over our traditional parkrun course, during the times of 0800-0900 on Saturday, June 13th 2020 - Times uploaded should be elapsed time, i.e. you shouldn't pause your timing device mid-run or walk :-) - Except for participants taking part in wheelchairs, all entries must be completed on foot, ie. no bikes, scooters, skateboards, roller-blades, etc.

19.01.2022 EDIT UPDATE - THURSDAY AUGUST 20, 2020: -------------------------------------------------------------------- Jessica Hull selected for Olympic debut... The Australian Olympic Committee today announced the selection of five Australian athletes for the Tokyo Olympics, including NSW 23-year-old Jessica Hull (BAN). She had earned automatic nomination to the team courtesy of her win in the 2020 Australian 5000m Championship and selection trial in February. She had also achieved the required standard for nomination. It’s incredible, Hull said from Stockholm last night. It’s exciting to reach your childhood dream. I’ve been thinking about this for a long time. It gives me goose bumps to think about it, although we have to wait an extra year, it will be just as special. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Congratulations to Shellharbour parkrunner, Jessica Hull, who last night became Australia's fastest ever woman over 5000m when she set the new Australian record of 14.43.80 in the IAAF Monaco Diamond League Event! Watch Jess' 5000m race here: https://youtu.be/T1iKMfsXGwM?t=700 And then, if you have a spare 12mins 35secs, you can watch Joshua Cheptegei set the new world record for the Men's 5000m! https://youtu.be/T1iKMfsXGwM?t=3937 Well done Jess!

12.01.2022 Happy to announce Shellharbour parkrun will be holding a 6th Anniversary 5km ISO Event on Saturday, June 13th 2020 ... further details to come soon!

11.01.2022 It's now 5 Shellharbour parkruns in since our 'un-pause' and we're delighted to have welcomed over 120 first timers and visitors to Shellharbour parkrun so far! Thank you all for joining us for a Shellharbour parkrun! While our visitors book is stored away to minimise contact on parkrunday, we encourage everyone to sing out online and let us know how they've found the course.... Just some of our recent visitors so far include: - David from Nepean River parkrun - "Beautiful course.... Thanks to all the Volunteers!" - Bronwyn Hager Amy, and her all-weather cheer squad! - Taehyuk Lim from Parramatta parkrun (a parkrun longest run extraordinaire) And a special welcome to our first timers, some of whom may already be fifth timers! A warning to you all, it can become addictive... One of our recent first timers, Scott, has embraced parkrun and even makes the trek from home on foot. Scott's quest began on 19th December time of 00:34:56 and his 2nd was on 2nd January with a time of 00:35:03. For Scott, running is an all-new ambition after giving up tenpin bowling as a sport of 16 years back in 2010. We wish you all the best Scott, and sing out on our page for any running event tips from fellow parkrunners! Have you joined us recently for a first-time parkrun or a visit? Feel free to share your experience and photos in the comments!

10.01.2022 With parkrun still suspended for this month and not returning in June or for a foreseeable future take the time this week to check on your fellow parkrunners and see if they are OK. If any of our parkrunners are in need of support, please consider reaching out to any of our core event team, or visit: https://www.beyondblue.org.au//national-help-lines-and-web

04.01.2022 6th Anniversary 5km ISO Event We had 54 participants who took advantage of good weather and some great locations to log a 5km time and celebrate our 6th anniversary due to the ongoing COVID19 pandemic and world-wide cancellation of all parkrun events. Thanks to everyone for your ongoing support in these difficult times.... https://sites.google.com//shellharbourparkrun-5km-/results #wewillgetthroughthistogether #loveparkrun #loveshellharbour #lovekillalea

04.01.2022 We've had to adjust for now how we celebrate our milestones, so we can provide you a Shellharbour parkrun in line with parkrun's COVID-19 Framework. This includes: - a shorter Run Director Brief - distancing before and after our parkrun - leaving in storage our beloved milestone frames... And we'd like to thank everyone for their support and understanding while we've re-established our parkrun. What we'd still love to do is celebrate our fantastic parkrun milestones, achieved week in - week out at Shellharbour parkrun. And we've got a few weeks to catch up on! So to kick us off, a big CONGRATULATIONS to everyone below for achieving the following parkrun milestones since our return: Junior 10s: Emma O'CONNELL Rhys O'CONNELL Cooper WALSH Graham COOPER Corey BISHOP 50 parkruns: Jordyn MARTIN - 47 Shellharbour parkruns since joining in 2015, plus visits to Lake Mac, Golden Harvest and Roodepoort parkruns! 03.01.2022 On this National Volunteer Week we’d like to say THANKS to all our wonderful parkrun volunteers who make Shellharbour parkrun a special community! To all our marshals and scanners, the talk walkers and the pacers, timers, tokens, photographers and briefing teams Shellharbour parkrun has been so lucky to enjoy such brilliant support from over 650 different volunteers in what has now been almost 6 years! THANKS!... We hope in these challenging days you’ve found other ways to channel your cheering during the ‘parkrun pause’, still getting to wear your purple or hi-vis orange, and have even enjoyed to the odd Saturday sleep-in for a change too! And because we miss you all we’d love to hear what you like about volunteering: What is your favourite parkrun volunteer role? Do you have a favourite parkrun volunteer memory so far? #loveparkrun #lovevolunteers #shellharbourparkrun #wewillbeback #NVW2020 #parkrunau #parkrunfamily
