25.01.2022 ATHLETE SCREENING & PROGRAMS This is a longer consultation involving a screen with one of our Sports Physiotherapists, followed by a strength and conditioning session with our Exercise Physiologist The screening and physical assessment consists of a number of strength, mobility and sport specific tests, these are then analysed by our staff members to dictate an appropriate program for the athlete.... The purpose of an Athlete Screening is to enhance your long term development and/or target the physical attributes needed for your particular sport or position. The data collected is emailed to the athlete, along with their individualised program, addressing the imbalances or deficits identified. At Shellharbour Physiotherapy we pride ourselves on a PROACTIVE treatment approach, with our athlete screening days becoming very popular across a number of sports. We have experience and success working alongside individuals that compete at state, national and international level football, track & field, cross country and basketball competitions. Having already played a season for the Illawarra Hawks U16’s team, Ruben’s passion for basketball, and relentless dedication to his training both on and off the court has seen him recently selected into the Illawarra Academy of Sport basketball scholarship program AND last weekend reach one of his biggest personal goals - his first slam ...dunk at only 14 years old!! 23.01.2022 HAPPY NEW YEAR What a year it has been for the Shellharbour Physio team! Whilst being on holidays, I’ve had some time to reflect on what we have achieved this year and we are excited to head into 2021 We opened our BRAND NEW clinic on Benson Avenue! This move was massive (and I never want to do it again), we are very thankful for the help and support provided by the SP team and our families.... Kirrilly & her husband Jason became parents! Our resident paediatric physio Kirrilly welcomed her first baby in May and has now returned from maternity leave 2 days per week. The SP fam has grown, with the addition of 2 new staff members in Brooklan and Toula! We are now providing Women’s Health & Pelvic Floor services in collaboration with our friends at @calmandconnection physio Our Exercise Physiologist Carol Robins has been busy as ever. Our high performance gym has been an excellent addition to the clinic, with Carol offering her services to patients with a wide range of exercise & rehabilitation goals. Online appointments are now available! A new way of providing treatment services, allowing every patient to access the Shellharbour Physio team. In the new year we will be teaming up with a number of other like-minded, small businesses within the Shellharbour area. 22.01.2022 MEL’S TOP 3 EXERCISES FOR HAMSTRING INJURY 1. Isometric long bridges - great for any stage of rehab! I will start to load in a lengthened position as soon as the patient can tolerate. 2. Pitter Patters - incorporating speed into your strength program, nice for distal hamstring injuries. Most of my guys will complete this exercise for the amount of time they will be running in sport (ie 11 sec for a 100m runner Vs 55 sec for a 400m runner).... 3. Single leg deadlift - looking at end stage rehab by really lengthening the hamstring off a step. Also requires great hip and core control when driving through into the running position. #ShellharbourPhysio #EmpoweredPerformanceAndRehabilitation
