19.01.2022 It’s all about P.E.A.C.E & L.O.V.E!! P.E.A.C.E & L.O.V.E is the new acronym to remember when managing soft tissue injuries. It’s a little different to the old R.I.C.E (which stood for Rest Ice Compression Elevation).... WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS??? P PROTECTION: Avoid activities and movements that increase pain for 1 to 3 days after injury. E ELEVATE: Elevate the injured limb higher than the heart as often as possible. A AVOID ANTI-INFLAMMATORIES: Avoid taking anti-inflammatories as they reduce tissue healing. Avoid icing. C COMPRESS: Use elastic bandage or tape to reduce swelling. E EDUCATE: Your body knows best. Avoid unnecessary passive treatments and medical investigations in the first few days after injury and let nature play its role. After the first few days have passed, soft tissue injuries need a little L.O.V.E: L LOAD: Let pain guide your gradual return to normal activities. Your body will tell you when it’s safe to increase load. O OPTIMISM: Be confident and positive. The brain plays a key role in rehabilitation. V VASCULARISATION: Choose pain free cardio activities to increase blood flow to repairing tissues. E EXERCISE: Restore mobility, strength and proprioception by adopting an active approach to recovery. You can read the full article here: http://dx.doi.org/10.1136/bjsports-2019-101253
