21.01.2022 Introducing a coronavirus policy at work might mean temperature checks and people with symptoms being asked to stay home. So what are the rules about being sent... home from work? Both employers and employees have legal obligations to support workplace health and safety. Employees can be directed to leave work if they’re sick or displaying coronavirus symptoms. Employers can direct an employee to do this if the employer's decision is reasonable and based on factual information about health and safety risks. This includes relying on the Australian Government’s health and quarantine guidelines. If an employee’s directed to stay home in these circumstances, they need to take their accrued sick leave or some other form of leave (like annual leave) to be paid for this time. JobKeeper employees are entitled to the minimum JobKeeper payment as usual during this time. If an employee doesn't have any accrued paid leave available, they might be able to take unpaid leave. https://coronavirus.fairwork.gov.au//sick-and-carers-leave

19.01.2022 If you get your Family Tax Benefit (FTB), you may be eligible for the second $750 Economic Support Payment. However, it’s important to know if you’re getting th...e Coronavirus Supplement, you won’t get the second $750 Economic Support Payment. When you get the 2nd Economic Support Payment depends how you get Family Tax Benefit. Fortnightly payments - you’ll get the Economic Support Payment from 15 July onwards. ZERO RATE - If you’re current on FTB and you have chosen to be paid after the end of the financial year, you’ll get the Economic Support Payment from 15 July onwards. You’ll know if you’ve chosen this option by checking your future payments - if FTB is showing as '$0' you're getting a zero rate. CLAIM EACH YEAR - If you need to lodge a claim for FTB as a lump sum after the end of the 2020-21 financial year, you’ll get the payment after confirming your income and submitting your claim. If eligible, it’ll be included in the lump sum you receive. Find more information on eligible payments here: www.servicesaustralia.gov.au//cen/economic-support-payment

18.01.2022 JobKeeper employees can be asked to take annual leave, and we know that many have been. Now that we’re a few months into JobKeeper, you might be looking at your... decreasing leave balance and wondering whether you can save some leave for when travel restrictions ease. The JobKeeper rules in the Fair Work Act say you can be asked to take annual leave, but you have to keep a balance of at least 2 weeks. So if your leave balance is getting down towards the 2 week mark, now is the time to start a conversation with your employer about what’s next.
