20.01.2022 Tonight my heart breaks hearing the news that beautiful Sylvester has passed away from wounds sustained during an altercation with a leopard. I first met Sylvester back in 2011 and he sparked my passion for wildlife conservation. Sylvester was an orphan cheetah who could not be rehabilitated to the wild. He acted as an ambassador cheetah to spread awareness of cheetah/wildlife conservation. In memory of Sylvester, a proportion of 2019 tour costs will be donated to the Victor...ia Falls Wildlife Trust who were his care takers, and who do amazing work with wildlife conservation. If you would like to make a donation, a go-fund-me page has been set up and we hope to raise $1000 in his memory. This money will go back into projects for which Sylvester was an ambassador. The link is as follows: https://www.gofundme.com/sylvester-for-wildlife Sylvester, you will be missed!

19.01.2022 Did you know that Hyena make vocalisations, including whooping, howling and the well-known "laughter" to communicate with other clan members up to 5km away? The pups are born with short brown fur, and develop their distinctive markings over time, as you can see by the different ages in the film. This footage was taken on a recent trip to the beautiful Kruger National Park.

17.01.2022 For the last two weeks Sylvester and I have been hard at work helping the amazing staff/volunteers at FreeMe Wildlife Rehabilitation KZN to treat, rehabilitate and release some of South Africa’s unique wildlife. What I loved about this experience was that the welfare and rehabilitation progress of the animals in care was their number one priority. As such, nobody is allowed to cuddle the animals, natural enclosures are used to promote reintegration into wild, they pair suitab...le animals to encourage natural behaviours etc. Another important point is that they do not retain recovered animals on site (meaning all animals are released back into the wild when they have recovered). I personally learned an extraordinary amount during my time at the clinic and was excited to share some of my knowledge in return. I was fortunate enough to work with a wide variety of species including birds, mammals and reptiles, with these photos showing just a fraction of the patients I helped to treat. A big shout out to the wonderful staff and hard working volunteers at FreeMe KZN who fight so hard for every life and work around the clock to ensure South Africa’s injured wildlife can be returned to the wild where they belong. 09.01.2022 With less than 900 Mountain Gorillas estimated to be living in the wild, it was such a treat for my guests and I to see this little guy and his family living wild and free. Did you know...scientists believe Mountain Gorillas share about 98% of their DNA with humans. Despite this, Gorillas do not have the arrangement or control of their larynx (the structure in charge of vocal production) to produce more complex verbal sounds, instead they use 'grunts' and 'barks' as well as body language to communicate.

05.01.2022 After a solid nights sleep, Sylvester and I were ready to go this morning for our South African adventure. We travelled on the Gautrain from the airport to Johannesburg city, then hopped into a Greyhound bus enroute to Howick. Both modes of transport were clean, safe and timely. I highly recommend them to anyone wanting to save money on private transfers/flights and to see more of this beautiful country.

05.01.2022 Safari time! A day on safari starts early, around 5-6am. But don't worry, you will want to get out of bed for this! First up is tea and coffee before you embark on your morning game drive. The animals are most active at dawn and dusk, so this is the best time to see them. Your expert guides read the signs of the bush, often using tracks, sounds and spore to find some amazing wildlife for you. After the drive, you return to the lodge for breakfast and some time to relax (often... a siesta is perfect to recover from the early start). Lunch is served mid day, and then you have some time to swim in the pool (if your lodge has one), or relax before your afternoon game drive. Stopping for sundowner drinks is a highlight...it is a time to stretch your legs, have a glass of wine/beer (or more traditionally a gin and tonic) and watch the sunset! From there, you will drive through the dark back to your lodge for dinner. The guides use spot lights to search for nocturnal animals. If you are in luck, you may even see a lion or leopard.
