19.01.2022 Christmas and burnout, 2020 style @anna_acupuncturist here. Yesterday in the clinic I thought it was about time for some festive fun!... I’ve been inspired to share this after reading a post by a beautiful patient of mine, who was really honest and brave about how this year has been for them. I haven’t been sharing much of late, I recognised this is because I am actually completely burnt out and have been for some time. Although we have returned to some semblance of normalcy, the impact of this year, the trauma, the uncertainty, the extreme and polarised division has cost us. It has cost me. Just because we don’t have to wear a mask outside or in a cafe now doesn’t mean our nervous systems have bounced back to pre-COVID resilience. I know mine certainly hasn’t. Just doing life at the moment is a real challenge for me. I’m having to really work hard at stopping and resting. I’m saying no. I’m delegating. I’m having to step back from taking on the mental or emotional load from those around me. I’m self-caring and Netflix-ing like you wouldn’t believe The planning, push-through, do-er in me is railing against these measures. She wants to ‘just do a little more’. But from where I sit, right now, deep in exhaustion and compassion fatigue, I really only have the energy to mentally roll my eyes and flip her the bird. It’s cool, she’ll be fine. I’ve reached the point where I really have no choice but to honour the impact this year has had on me. I NEED to do these things, so I am able to show up in the way that I want to for my patients and my loved ones. I know that it can be easy to compare the way you’re falling apart with someone else who seems to have it all together. Well, I’m being really super honest here, and sharing that I absolutely do not have it all together right at the moment. And that’s ok. I’m sharing my experience to normalise the response to this abnormal, intense and, for many, really quite horrible year. Popping a little bit of festive colour yesterday helped me feel just ever so slightly better as I moved through the day. At the moment, my focus is on choosing anything, no matter how small, which will help me feel better

15.01.2022 Time to soften in to the weekend! We’ve got some sunshine, and some good days stretching out ahead of us. Here in Melbourne, things have opened up a bit which means it is possible to get out there, do more and see more.... While this is excellent and positive and absolutely what we all want to see It is important to remember not everyone is champing at the bit to get out there. Some people are feeling anxiety at the idea of ‘getting out there’. This is really normal. Our lives have been so upside down for these past few months. It is normal to feel trepidation about things like socialising, shopping or even being out in public. It is really important to take things at a pace that feels right and comfortable for you. So today, take a moment and feel in to what is right for you for this weekend. Really just soften in to it, notice any emotions that come up. There is a power which comes from taking the time to sit with and soften in to your feelings, even if they feel uncomfortable. Good luck, be safe and enjoy the weekend! In what ever way is right for you
