19.01.2022 Shenton Colleges Yr. 7/8 service learning team, along with the UWA ZONTA group, goes from strength to strength. This week 58 students and staff turned out to make 500 birthing kits to send overseas so that pregnant mothers can give birth in much more hygienic conditions. Then, with the help of the Swan Hills Zonta group, our students made cushions for people recovering from breast cancer. An amazing effort all round.
18.01.2022 The 27th of May marks a special day of significance to all Australians and all people who believe in respect for others, justice for all and equity. Our College has 3 values of Care, Curiosity and Collaboration that hopefully are shared and acknowledged by all. Tomorrow marks the beginning of National Reconciliation Week, which runs from the 27th May to the 3rd June. Through a partnership and friendship with Noongar elder, Dr Noel Nannup, I learnt a phrase: Fair, Just and Eve...n. Shenton College has always been a proudly inclusive school with a proudly inclusive community. As a school, and as a community, we have a responsibility to live out our values and ensure that our curriculum, our history, our perspectives and our philosophy are influenced by, and inclusive of, our First Nation people. Our Fair, Just and Even approach to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders should not be limited to only one day, or even one week. It should be a continuous commitment to learning about our shared histories, our joined cultures, and our collective achievements. This year recognises the twentieth anniversary of the Reconciliation Walk across Sydney Harbour Bridge, a landmark moment when more than 250,000 people came together to seek reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in Australia. Whilst this was a significant event, people coming together across the nation to show support for a more reconciled Australia, should not be limited to a single event or a walk across a bridge. If America has its Declaration of Independence, maybe we could have a Declaration of Interdependence. This years theme, In This Together, gives us an opportunity as a school and as a community to recognise and care for each other, be curious about each others cultures and languages, and to work collaboratively together for a better future for ourselves and for our children. 17.01.2022 Theres no denying that this week has been a complicated one, but moments like these are when our College Values of Care, Curiosity and Collaboration come to the fore. This week, amongst all other things, is Harmony Week. Harmony Week is about inclusivity, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background. This week at Shenton we acknowledge and celebrate different traditions and cultures. And we also take a moment to celebrate some things we all have in common, each other and our school community. We asked some of our Middle School students to complete the following sentence: Everyone belongs at our school, because.... Here are some of the responses. #EveryoneBelongs #HarmonyWeek #ShentonCollege @ Shenton College

14.01.2022 Our Year 8 GATE classes have been working in an Inter-Disciplinary Learning project on the concept of The Good Life. Using the skills learnt in their MESH subjects, they have examined ancient and modern ideas of a Good Life, collected data, questioned family and friends, and researched an important historical figure to consider whether or not they lived a good life. Last week they presented their findings to other Shenton Middle School students. #ShentonCollege #SuccessfulStudents

10.01.2022 Over recent days we have been communicating with our community partners and we are delighted to be able to share this welcome announcement from our Learning Links partner, the University of Western Australia. This is an innovative move that we feel sure will offer relief for Y12 students in these uncertain times. The following information was released to Principals this evening. New entry options for Year 12s We appreciate that the global COVID-19 pandemic is causing a lot o...f uncertainty at the moment, particularly if youre studying Year 12, and were doing everything we can to help you get through it. Thats why we are pleased to announce that we will now be offering three different ways for current Year 12 school leavers in Australia to apply for admission to our main undergraduate degrees the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Biomedical Science, Bachelor of Commerce, and Bachelor of Science for 2021 entry. We have made this change so that during this challenging time you are provided with more certainty, support and options should you wish to pursue a UWA degree. ATAR-based entry Although it is too early to know if there will be any changes to Year 12 exams, we will still offer our standard entry pathway. Predicted ATAR entry UWA will provide an offer based on a students predicted ATAR from the end of Year 11. We may require a diagnostic interview to identify any additional support that may be required, including bridging units, once you arrive at UWA. At this stage Year 12 students must still sit their Year 12 exams and, when results are released, if your ATAR is higher than your predicted ATAR, you will be able to update your application if you would like to change course. Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) In recognition of the unique set of challenges Year 12 students are facing this year, 18 and 19-year-old students who are taking insufficient ATAR-based subjects or are not taking ATAR, will be eligible to sit the STAT test and a diagnostic interview as above. The Predicted ATAR entry pathway is not applicable for Direct Pathways to Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy and Podiatry. The STAT test pathway is not available for any Direct Pathways or the Bachelor of Philosophy. The application process for these courses will be communicated shortly. Weve responded as quickly as possible so we can put your minds at ease during this time of unprecedented uncertainty, more information on the 2021 admissions pathways for Year 12 students will be announced soon and we encourage you to register here to stay up-to-date. Please know that our Future Students Centre is here to support you during this time and answer any questions you may have. Phone: 131 UWA (131 892) [email protected]

We strive to be a safe place for all, regardless of gender or sexual identity. Wear it Purple was established to show young people across the globe that there was hope, that there were people who did support and accept them, and that they have the right to be proud of who they are.
