22.01.2022 Boab trees have the most amazing nuts. The indigenous people of Derby use them for bush medicine (sore tummies) but they're pretty tasty too - like honeycomb, but without the sticky sweetness. #bushmedicine #natureeducation #nature #nativeplants #westernaustralia #natureplay

21.01.2022 When it comes to repair and jeans, I love sashiko stitching. These jeans were repaired 18 months ago using the traditional Japanese art of repair. And I'm really happy with how long the mend has lasted. (Apart from that loose thread. Should've anchored it better!) Miss 8 has since been wearing these jeans frequently so I think the fix is a win. #sashikostitching #slowfashion #mending #repair #learntosew #sustainabilityeducation #zerowaste

21.01.2022 That's a wrap. Talking low waste with the Bateman community on a Friday afternoon. #festivalofbateman2020 #wastefreeliving #sheoaksustainability

21.01.2022 Now on youtube - 'how to change a cloth nappy'. It looks so easy because it is that easy. Nice work Penne and Tash. Love this series. #clothnappies #zerowaste

17.01.2022 An insect hotel project to start the school holidays. Steel cans filled with melaleuca bark, cardboard rolls, pithy sunflower stems - come on in little bugs! #insecthotel #bughotel #beehotel #reducereuserecycle #natureeducation #outdoors #buglife #diyworkshop #science #reuse

17.01.2022 A remnant from the days when Perth wetlands were used as dumping grounds. In just one patch of bush we found an electric stove, washing machine, outdoor dining setting and 3 rusted out cars (1 even had a trampoline neatly stacked inside). #responsiblewastemanagement #illegaldumping #wetlandconservation

17.01.2022 It's a match. Pyrex dish meets beeswax wrap. (: D. Lear) #pyrex #beeswaxwraps #happycustomer #sheoaksustainability

17.01.2022 The bounty of a local gifting economy. Last week, a neighbour asked on facebook for lemons. And I had kilos of them, ripe for the picking. Groups like @buynothingproject are amazing at creating these local connections. And while gifting is without monetary exchange or barter, this veggie delivery just made my week. #creatingcommunity #buynothing #buynothingproject

16.01.2022 "Tea tree oil protects against infection and skin ailments." (Australian Tea Tree Industry Assoc - www.attia.asn.au) A few people have asked how to use tea tree balm. At the risk of possibly embarassing my children ... we use it for:... - dry, red lips (dermatitis, eczema), - Staph infection/impetigo, - cuts and scrapes, - insect bites, - acne. Did I mention how much we love it? (I had to raid my teenager's bag for the pictured jar.) #teatreeoil #balm #diyskincare #naturalskincare #teatreecream #zerowaste #lowwastefamily #sheoaksustainability

10.01.2022 Meet Dunsborough local, Ruby Pleiter. Beach lover (and surfing instructor) Ruby created Planet Straws and Co to offer cafes and restaurants an alternative to plastic straws. Her product? Compostable drinking straws made from rice and tapioca, that are fun (there are 4 colours), edible, and affordable. My crew are loving them. 09.01.2022 Within a few years, we’ve gone from zero fish to counts in the hundreds. Eels, turtles, spoonbills, all kinds of birds. There’s now even some resident kangaroos. #rewilding #urbanecology #goodnews

05.01.2022 I was gifted these cosmetics containers today and discovered a cool local company. That only uses reusable, recyclable packaging. The packaging industry is one of the big contributors to plastic waste (about 25% globally). So I love it when companies like #mokoshskincare eschew plastic squeeze tubes. #lowwastebathroom #buylocal #reducereuserecycle

04.01.2022 I was so excited to unfurl this banner for the first time. The beginning of the Cloth Nappy Project at Green Skills. #flashbackmonday

04.01.2022 A mini order of lip balms, to start the week! #zerowasteskincare #naturalskincare #buylocal #plasticfree #lipbalm

02.01.2022 Tea Tree Balm is the bomb for the home first aid kit. Named by Captain Cook when he noticed the Bunjalung people of eastern Australia making teas out of the leaves, tea tree is the most commonly known indigenous bush medicine. And scientifically, the antimicrobial, antifungal, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties have been documented since the 1920s. ... Here's how to make it from scratch- DIY tea tree balm. Melt 60g of balm, then add 15 drops of tea tree oil (make sure it's undiluted, pure oil). Medicinal uses coming in next post! #teatreeoil #teatreebalm #naturalskincare #zerowaste #bushmedicine #diy #lipbalm #sheoaksustainability
