25.01.2022 Hello and welcome to the Shepparton Chess Club News. My name is Joseph Commisso, and I am the Editor for the S.C.C.I. I will first start off by saying the worlds in a great state with this virus at this present time. To me its like I have woken up out of a bad dream, and Im trying to go back to sleep hoping that when I wake up that it was a bad dream. This is the second week we have not been able to open our chess club. But I fear that it might be six months or maybe even ...Continue reading

24.01.2022 Hello and welcome to the Shepparton Chess Club news. My name is Joseph Commisso. I am the editor. Well it's been some time since I have written a post on the S.C.C. It has been rather an upside down for the club this year. Because of the covit 19 it has set our club behind. Earlier back in March we started with the Peter Connoll Memorable tournament which we completed. other tournaments were interrupted due to the virus epidemic. The Match play was interrupted while some pla...yer's never turned up, and I was very fast losing interest in tournaments where player's agreed to take part in and never turned up. So it was up to those who remained and played the tournament through. The rapid tournament was going well until our juniors never turned up to complete the tournament. The five minute tournament started okay, and there was a good chance our youngest junior could of won a trophy, but never turned up. However the Aggregate which is played all year round was also a disappointment as players never turned up to compete. I don't see no sense in four or six players who are the strongest players in the club, and who win year after year because they can beat the lower grade players. Our club need new blood. We need new player's who are as strong as our existing players to come in and become members and so to defeat these winning players. I am hoping our two junior's will return in the new year. The trophy's went off well again as usual. Rod Carr and myself received a small trophy for most improved. I need to travel around to other chess clubs such as, the Bendigo and Ballarat chess clubs, and observe how their set up works. We need to improve and bring our chess club into line like those chess clubs are. Anyway I will end my news here for the time, and wish you all a happy and safe new year. Joseph Commisso. Editor. t

18.01.2022 Hello and welcome to the Shepparton Chess Club. My name is Joseph Commisso. Editor. I would first of all like to say hello to all of our members since the closure of the chess club due to the virus issue. I hope you are all well. It is good that some of the club members are playing chess with me through Chess.Com. I hope that soon the restrictions that are on will be relaxed enough to let us resume with our chess club.... I am looking forward to this happening, and to meeting up with all my chess club friends. I miss the games and the seeing you all. I hope there will be a cure for this virus soon so as the world can get back to normal again. I hope we will be able to resume in time to start the Championship Tournament. I am sure that every member will want to play in this tournament. I would like to see that happen. Well this was a short post letting you know that I have not forgotton any of you the players and importantly, you my readers. Cheers to you all, and stay safe. To my best friend, Im always thinking of you as well as playing chess with you. Say safe my friend. Joseph Commisso. Editor.

08.01.2022 Hello, this is Joseph Commisso from the Shepparton Chess Club. Since I have been a bit slack in bringing you the news, I just thought I would add to my last page which I forgot to mention That A Juniors trophy which I had ordered 5 weeks ago finally turned up. The football seasons trophys is what held up the junior trophy. As this trophy was meant to be given out at the same time as the Peter Connoll Memorable cup, I felt terrible embarrassed not having the junior trophy ...to give out. This particular Trophy is donated by me to the best junior who works hard, has a very good and happy nature, and who is willing to listen to advice and best of all not argue with me while I am helping him to improve his chess. As the appointed junior chess coach since 1998 at that time been appointed by the former President Jon Daivis, I have taught a lot of new juniors to progress to the point where I find it very difficult to beat them. My junior coaching roll was continued on after the new president David Wynne was appointed. I enjoy being the junior coach, sometimes they teach me. No doubt, some of the juniors have a professional chess coach as well, so that helps me with their progressive chess lessons. Over the years I have taken on given juniors a chess certificate which I have designed, and as well I choose A good frame to house the certificate. Normally I dont sign the certificate, but this year I have changed that and I sign the certificate. In this case, eight year old Tristan received a certificate and a trophy for his well earned hard work chess. If there is something that lights up in my heart, its seeing the delight on a juniors face when I surprise them with a certificate and trophy. WELL DONE TRISTAN. And so while I am the juniors coach and they keep up a good attendance, and take note in what I teach them, they will be awarded with a club chess certificate as well as a trophy from me. And so until next time I appear on the Shepparton Chess Club News, take great care, and I hope my best friend enjoys his birthday present. Joseph Commisso. Vice President, and Editor. for The S.C.C.I.

06.01.2022 These guys were concentrating really hard when I snapped this photo. 14 year old Callum left was playing Geoff who is one of our champion chess players. Geoff ...finally agreed to a draw which Geoff declines for as long as he can, making sure that that the draw would be genuine. Callum was quick to point out why it was a draw. Callum has developed into a very strong player. Hes very hard to beat in 1 minute games. David right rear was playing a very intense game with Chris left rear. Both these players are very strong players. See more
