15.01.2022 Advent Brings Hope There is more to Christmas then trees, gifts, sales, Santa Clause and all the hustle and bustle that goes with it. Life has been difficult for many due to COVID Lockdowns. It’s financially harder, people are lonely and alone, health issues have become more prevalent.... Will you join me and make room for Jesus? Jesus is always ready to help us to grow; he can help us to change for the better. As we come out of lockdown we now have hope that we can share time with our loved ones which is far more important than material gifts, we share our hugs and love. Written by Bron Fisher

08.01.2022 Always Was, Always Will Be, NAIDOC Week 2020 This week we celebrate the spiritual and cultural connection of those who walked here first. This year’s theme recognises that First Nations Peoples have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. The Shepparton Uniting Church are fortunate to meet on the land of the Bangerang people of the Yorta Yorta nation and we wish to acknowledge the custodians of this land, and their Elders past, present and emerging. We ac...knowledge and respect their continuing culture and the contribution they make to the life of this city and this region. The following prayer is offered from the Uniting Church Assembly: ALWAYS WAS, ALWAYS WILL BE Here, Assembly Prayer for NAIDOC Week 2020: Loving Creator God, We rejoice in the beauty of this ancient land and her waters. We marvel at the awesome way they have been formed. We give thanks for her First Nations Peoples, their stories of creation sung by countless Ancestors. It is right, Loving Mystery that we name the dispossession, violence and bloodshed, which First Peoples endured at the hands of Second Peoples. We ask your forgiveness, and their forgiveness, on behalf of our forebears. We pray for your healing of this land and her Peoples. We pray that love will make a new way, a harmony way, the way of Jesus. Holy God, Today we are grateful, and we celebrate this nation’s true history, beginning long before time. The First People of this ancient land who gave them birth, who gives them life Mother Earth. We honour them and share their joy. You, Wisdom, call us body, call us one, To walk together, people from many lands, under this same golden sun, together First Nations Peoples and all of us who have since come. Together there is a new song to be sung, as old as time. Hear the yidaki, hear the bilma, the Ancestors call. Wisdom, help us to listen, to follow, to learn, to grow. In the name of Christ, we pray. Amen. [Yidaki is the Yolu word for digeridoo as bilma is for clap stick] Stu McMillan, National Consultant Covenanting Assembly Resourcing Unit Uniting Church in Australia https://www.naidoc.org.au https://www.naidoc.org.au/resources/teaching-guides https://uniting.church/naidoc-week-2020/ https://www.facebook.com/NatUAICC/

07.01.2022 It’s been more than 70 years since Reverend Frank Byatt called on his family to share the joy of their Christmas with those in need around the world. He put a Bowl of Remembrance on the dinner table and asked his loved ones to place a generous gift in it to ‘share your good dinner with hungry children in other lands’. Frank couldn’t have foreseen how his simple act of compassion would grow into the powerful Christmas Bowl tradition we now know. And he couldn’t have known ho...w much it would be needed in our world today. When Frank sat down to his plentiful Christmas dinner in Melbourne in 1949, he knew that millions of people were suffering in Europe after World War II. The Shepparton Uniting Church, like so many individuals and churches around Australia, of all denominations, have support the Christmas bowl. Below you will find the video from today’s worship service if you wish to watch it again. For further information on the Christmas bowl, or to make donation please head to their website. https://christmasbowl.actforpeace.org.au/
