23.01.2022 Happy NAIDOC Week 2020! It's a significant time to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories and achievements. It's also an opportunity for everyone in Australia to reflect on and make a priority the social and emotional wellbeing of Indigenous Australians Whilst the week is usually celebrated in July, the organising committee made the unprecedented decision to move the official NAIDOC week celebrations to November, to protect elders and those ...in the community with chronic health issues, from the impacts of COVID. This year’s theme - Always Was, Always Will Be - recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. Shepparton Festival, like many other organisations, is proud to celebrate NAIDOC Week in both July and November. To learn more about upcoming NAIDOC events, visit bit.ly/38gSSKk. 16.01.2022 Calling artists of the GV Applications now open for Story Lab: How to share your artist story FREE 6-week program... Course includes 4 x half days & 3 x full days Learn from 4 industry experts Showcase your work, skills & brand Connect with audiences through social media channels Applications close Monday 14th December This past year, the COVID-19 crisis has highlighted the need to deliver on the Festival’s mission in a new way by equipping local artists with the tools and knowledge to become ‘social-distance proof’ and showcase their unique work, skills, and brand through digital platforms. In response to the challenges that artists have faced during the pandemic, we have appointed a team of media experts to develop and deliver a training course that will teach a number of local artists how to effectively communicate and engage through online platforms. We are thrilled to announce a series of workshops called ‘Story Lab: How to share your artist story’. The project is supported by a grant through Creative Victoria and aims to provide artists with storytelling skills to develop ideas, a brand voice, and create engaging video content to share with their online audience through their social media channels. A team of four industry experts have been assembled including a creative producer, writer/director, digital marketing specialist and a videographer. The free six-week face-to-face program will run across February and March 2021, assisting artists to reconnect with their audience, discover their own stories and unlock creative thinking. Up to 10 local artists will be chosen to participate. Applications are now open. To submit an EOI go to www.sheppartonfestival.org.au/story-lab/ Applications close Monday 14th December 2020. 06.01.2022 U N I F Y 2021. We’re back baby! Sound the alarm, because the Shepparton Festival has moved into its comfort zone, we’ve donned our fuzzy socks and hit a jazzy minor, announcing dates for a winter fest in 2021. We’ve moved where the weather suits our clothes, in the words of Simon & Garfunkel, seasons change with the scenery, weaving time in a tapestry. Think fireside chats, crisp performances, fresh installations and delicacies of deciduous delights.... Save the dates, Unify 2021 will hit the Goulburn Valley June 11th to 27th. Shepparton Festival General Manager, Louise Tremper says We are looking forward to delivering a safe and exciting festival in June 2021. We aim to reignite the creativity that our region is so well known for and to giving a boost to our visitor economy. Sure, it’s going to look a little different, but the move allows the Festival team to make progress on our recently released strategic plan, it gives artists time to generate a program that not only inspires and connects, but also fits the COVID-Safe restrictions we may be facing. Festival Creative Director, Jamie Lea says We are feeling strong and eager to bring our region its 25th Festival. Winter is a wonderful opportunity to explore different indoor/outdoor spaces and use the black of night as our canvas. As always, the program will deliver a diverse range of events including visual arts, comedy, music, workshops, films, performance, feasts and a line-up of unique events you won’t want to miss. Unify is a call to action on so many levels and the perfect theme for a festival post-lockdown. We are all hungry for a festival, but before we know it, June will be right here, and I can’t wait! says Jamie. To keep up to date with Festival program announcements, follow us on Facebook or head to the website www.sheppartonfestival.org.au and join the mailing list. #sheppfest #unifySF #winterfest
