21.01.2022 Having regional Victorian businesses wait longer than necessary is costing jobs and putting local businesses at risk. Most communities in regional Victoria hav...e recorded zero cases in the past 14 days. And our accomodation providers are looking forward to welcoming back visitors from other regional areas. Many accomodation providers like Cheryl Hammer from the award winning The Churches have told me they are ready to go and already have strict hygiene practices in place so they can operate safely. We can start to safely reopen and regional Victoria can lead our states recovery.

09.01.2022 Sole traders need the State Government to offer them the same support as other businesses received. Some tweaks to restrictions may see the beauty industry re-...open soon but spare a thought for how hard they have been impacted - especially sole traders like Ellie from Beauty with Ellie Grace in Shepparton. Ellie started her business in November 2019 only to be forced to close in March under stage 3 restrictions. Her income immediately dropped to zero but her expenses like equipment leases, rent, rates, utilities etc continued to rack up. Ellie was relieved to re-open in June but was again forced to close in August due to the second wave. Again her income dropped to zero but the expenses racked up. And because she is a sole trader she has been cut off from both rounds of state government business support grants that were only available to businesses with employees. Ellie’s looking forward to re-opening and welcoming her clients back to her store but the State Government need to step up and provide some assistance for sole traders who were forced to close a second time because the government failed to manage hotel quarantine.
