20.01.2022 Are Australian Commemorative Coins a Good Investment? Preliminary research says Yes. Digging through old coin catalogs on a Rainy Sunday is a favoured pass time of mine. A good coin collection starts with in-depth investigation. Today I’m looking at 3 different commemorative 50 cent coins 1977 jubilee 1981 Charles and Diana and 1982 Brisbane Commonwealth Games. All 3 were released in general circulation with high mintage of between 20,000,000 to 25,000,000. If we assume a ...‘purchase’ price of face value and a grade of Uncirculated then we can work out the appreciation. These three coins retail now for between $8 to $12 each. In 1987 they had a catalog Val of $1.50 each, in 2005 it was $5 each and in the last McDonald’s catalog (2017) they came in about $8 to $9. So as you can see, these coins are worth approximately 20 times face value in approximately 40 years. This is a very basic analysis and I implore you to conduct your own research. Some VHS were never rereleased, and even if they were, many collectors are buying the ‘Original’ VHS release. In fact. Some are very rare and desirable and often command a premium price. So. Check in the spare room to see if mum has kept your old VHS library? Maybe you’ll dig up some Old Gold???

08.01.2022 My Two Cents... There is currently a resurgence in coin collecting. A lot of this is led by the coloured $2 coin craze that is sweeping our nation. However, many new and established collectors are putting together year sets of 1 and 2 cent pieces. Although these coins have been out of circulation for nearly 30 years, they are still readily available. It is quite achievable (and affordable) to put together a set that has an example of every year in circulated condition. Look out for the 1968 in both 1 and 2 cent. This year was a low mintage and much harder to find, however examples of this coin come up regularly for those collectors with time and patience. Coin Collecting is Alive and Well. Noodle= sorting through coins for particular dates and denominations. At robing_81 on eBay we have many listings which include World Coin, Australian Pennies, half pennies and 1 and 2 cent pieces. Great activity to do with the kids. Precious metal is generally a very safe option during turbulent times. Gold and Silver in the form of coins is considered a safe bet. Starting with the final Signature series of Australian PreDecimal Banknotes. This week I have released for Auction 10x 1 Pound notes with signature combination of Coombs Wilson. Many collectors try to form a collection that includes 1 example of each signature combination in each denomination. 1 Pound notes in lower grade are still quite affordable and not overly rare.
