25.01.2022 Starting school is a major milestone and today our first group of 2021 preps had an onsite visit to explore our beautiful learning environment. Together they explored the junior playground, had an introduction to coding Bee bots, made new friends through teamwork activities and designed their own library bag. Today we began setting up strong foundations for our newest life-long learners. We can’t wait to watch you learn and grow together at Sherbourne Primary School.

20.01.2022 As NAIDOC week draws to a close the Junior school students listened to the story Keep Shining Bright written by Timena Rhodes-Scott. Timena is an indigenous author who was born in the Torres Strait. Next week the junior school students will have the opportunity to meet the author via Webex and ask her questions about her story and her culture. ‘Keep Shining Bright’ tells the indigenous story of Kija- Grandmother Moon and Dawar- a dimly-lit star who discuss the important life lesson to always remember to value yourself rather than relying on others to tell you your value. Our junior school students then made a person using the colours of the aboriginal flag and wrote the character traits that they value in themselves.

09.01.2022 Today our preps had to work as a team and use their detective skills to solve a mystery! While reading ‘Where’s the Green Sheep?’ by Mem Fox they discovered that their Green Sheep was missing from the last page of their book! Using teamwork and determination they set off around the school to find their lost sheep. The Green Sheep had left clues around the school to help them work out where he had been. First the preps headed to the hall then the library, office, sick bay and ...they even visited Mrs Seymour, the principal, to ask her if she had seen their lost sheep. She said she hadn’t but suggested the preps should head to our school swimming pool to check if he was there. Thankfully this was where the preps found their final clue which led them to search their classroom. Looking high and low they finally found him.....fast asleep of course! Before he had fallen asleep the Green Sheep had left the students a challenge to make their own unique sheep. Our creative preps worked hard on their beautiful sheep.....respectfully and quietly of course so their tired Green Sheep could enjoy his well earned sleep! Well done Preps for solving the mystery and finding our lost Green Sheep! See more

04.01.2022 As our 2020 school year draws to a close we would like to take a moment to thank our incredible Sherbourne parent community for their commitment and involvement towards their student’s education. The most important lesson we learnt together in 2020 was that with our amazing Sherbourne community ‘virtually’ anything is possible.

02.01.2022 This week the junior school students are further developing their ability to predict while reading. Making predictions is a valuable strategy to improve reading comprehension. Predicting encourages children to actively think ahead and ask questions. It also allows students to understand the story better, make connections to what they are reading and interact with the text. Today the junior school students made predictions about the text ‘Therodore the unsure’. The students examined the cover of the book and asked and answered questions like ‘What does unsure mean?’, ‘Does he look unsure?’ and ‘What could Theodore be unsure about?’ before making their predictions about the story.

01.01.2022 We send a very special welcome to our prep students and new families who are beginning their educational journey at Sherbourne Primary School today. Welcome back and happy 1st day of school to all our students and families.
