25.01.2022 Giving meaning to loose parts requires us to think about the possibilities of how a child learns and consider the materials and environments she uses. Loose parts create endless possibilities and invite creativity. For example, if a child picks up a cardboard tube and starts to play, most likely that tube can become anything the child wants it to be. Imagination, creativity, curiosity, desire, and need are the motivation of loose parts. Loose parts are materials that can be moved, carried, combined, redesigned, lined up, and taken apart and put back together in multiple ways. Loose parts can be used alone or combined with other materials. There is no set of specific directions for materials that are considered loose parts. The child is the direction.

24.01.2022 No wonder loose parts are so good for little hands

24.01.2022 Following our discussion on fire trucks we asked sergeant Raymond from the dog squad to come and bring his police dog Axel in this police car. He had a big discussion with the kids about Axel and what he does and why he does it and Axel showed us some cool tricks. We all fell in love with Axel..he's a very good boy. Thank you Raymond and Mikayla for bringing Axel to visit us an educate us about police dogs.

21.01.2022 We had our very much anticipated fire truck visit today! As expected, the fireman arrived at the centre at 10.00 and started the process of parking the firetruck in our driveway. Fireman Wayne introduced himself and to the children and had a really important talk with all the boys and girls Fireman Wayne put on the special pants, boots, jacket and helmet, even the gloves! We learnt that when firemen are putting out fires they use the shield on their helmets to protect thei...r faces from the fire, and that their pants have special suspenders to help make sure their pants don't fall down. We all got to check out the truck and spray the big hose. MASSIVE THANK YOU to Wayne, Jodie, Jess, Hudson and Cooper for organising this for us. We have the best families xx Enjoy some pics See more

21.01.2022 HAPPY EDUCATORS DAY TO ALL THE BEAUTIFUL EDUCATORS AT SHERIDAN MEADOWS, AND TO ALL THE EDUCATORS AROUND THE WORLD, YOU ARE ALL APRRECIATED XOXO Brighten their day the next time you see them by saying something like this: 1. Thank you. It’s a simple but meaningful phrase that people in this profession just don’t hear often enough. 2. We appreciate you. educators don’t just teach children. They help prepare kids for the road ahead in life. Saying you appreciate that effort rem...inds an Educator that their impact goes beyond the classroom. 3. You deserve a break. Remind an educator to keep their batteries charged! That could mean they treat themselves to a spa day or a round of golf. 4. Your sacrifices don’t go unnoticed. Educators give up their personal and family time to grade papers, prepare lessons, and attend conferences. Tell them their extra work means a lot to you. The compliment will certainly mean a lot to them. See more

11.01.2022 Birdwatching is something we do with the Meadows children because it provides an intimate connection between people and their natural environment. ... So ultimately, more wildlife recreationists such as birdwatchers will lead to better protection of the world's wildlife and wilderness spaces.

08.01.2022 "Why do kids go up the slide? They are seeking risk and challenge in their play. Kids feel powerful scaling the slide. Going up the slide is fun. It's healthy a...dventure, often part of imaginative play. Climbing the slide helps kids test their strength, find their limits and gain balance, spatial awareness, and yes, social awareness and consideration." -Heather Shumaker Learning Through Experience (Sunflower pillar) #RememberPlay #SharedWisdom Join The Sunflower Circle: https://qoo.ly/33udfp

04.01.2022 #repost @mombrain.therapist Hey there, I’m Bryce @mombrain.therapist I share about motherhood and everyday mental health. ... As we start this new week I encourage you to practice noticing your kids. Now, I use this word all the time and I’m often asked what I mean by it. Because we always notice our kids don’t we?!? Well, how I usually teach it, is to compare it to driving a car. When we drive normally we can often go through the motions on auto-pilot. We’re paying attention, but a lot of our actions and awareness is automatic. But now I want you to think of how you feel when you back your car out of a parking space. Do you just hit the gas and go? NO! You take it slow. You look and listen closely. That’s my encouragement for you this week. To slow down some moments and look and listen closely to these little beings you are raising. Soak them and this moment in time up. Take a mental picture instead of grabbing for your camera. Breathe it in deep. What do you want to notice about your kids this week? See more
