24.01.2022 Another reminder to boaters that it’s only weeks left now to update PFD’s to the new AS Standard of A4758. Don’t leave it till the last minute as stores will be under huge pressure to meet demand. Hefty fines apply to non compliance from January 1st 2021.

20.01.2022 Reminder the Squid grounds are now closed right across from the far North West through to the far North East of the state for the full month of October. Squid used for bait during this closure must have been purchased as bait from a retail stockist, and rods in ones possession must not be rigged with a squid jig. East Coast closure including Great Oyster Bay & Mercury Passage is from mid October till mid November. Pass on the word to your mates to ensure they are aware of this regulation.

18.01.2022 Here is a short video clip shot yesterday of some Squid action not usually seen by anglers. It shows the curiosity this species has and the caution they often show in taking the jig. Squid seem to like the jig static and dropping before taking it. We have found that casting a jig then winding the retrieve without pausing and allowing the jig to continually stop & drop meets very rare success compared to varying the retrieve. (regularly give a few rips and allow it to drop towards the bottom) Moreover likened seagulls to fighting over food it is evident this characteristic applies to feeding squid.

Come January 1st in the peak boating holiday and fishing period you will be land based if by leaving it to the last minute stores are sold out or closed over the Xmas break.
