25.01.2022 @Incode Engineers - u11 Girls Coaching Announcement The Sherwood Football Club are delighted to announce the appointment of Tianna Peters as the head coach of the U11 Girls for Season 2021. Tianna has always had a passion for women’s footy and all thins black and white!... She started her career playing junior football at the Ferny Grove Falcons. She was forced to take a short break from her playing career as she fought, and overcame, leukemia. During this time, her family became involved with Sherwood Football Club and the club held a fundraiser for her - which is one of the many reasons she is so keen to give back to the club through coaching. After she recovered, Sherwood unfortunately weren't in a position to continue their successful womens program at the time and Tianna went to play senior footy at the Wilston Grange Gorillas for four years before heading to the Jindalee Jags and helping them to an undefeated premiership in 2018. In 2019, she co-captained their Div 2 side. When it was announced the Magpies were finally granted a licence to re-boot the senior womens team, Tianna and her family could not get back to the club quick enough! With her long family history at the club (her two sisters and father had played here previously) and her personal connection, she did not want to play anywhere else. She quickly became an integral part of the womens team, contributing to their push to the finals. Not content with just playing, Tianna also took on the role as head coach of the U11 Girls last year and loved it so much, she is back again for 2021! Tianna really enjoys helping the girls develop their skills and teaching them the finer arts of the game and the club and our u11 girls are lucky to have her! Welcome back again Tianna (and Mads, and Jeff and Raylene and the rest of the Peters clan!) #YTG

20.01.2022 Dig Deep for Jakey Heard 24 year old Jake Heard is a Sherwood Junior who went on to make his senior debut for the club as a 16 year old in Round 1 of 2013. He showed he belonged at Senior level immediately when he kicked 4 goals on debut in what was a promising start to his senior career at the Magpies. With blistering speed and beautiful skills, he was set to flourish, but sadly an injury curse then followed him for several seasons including a badly broken leg and he a...massed a further 17 Senior games before moving on from footy at the conclusion of the 2016 season. However, his injury battles were just a blip on the radar as in 2020 he was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a form of bone cancer. Jake has been having ongoing chemotherapy and on 16 December underwent surgery to have a partial hip replacement and recommences chemotherapy tomorrow. As a result, Jake is unable to work and his partner Hollie who is a Paediatric Anaesthetic Nurse is trying to be there for Jake as well as work to support them financially. Prior to this shock diagnosis Jake & Hollie had started to build their first home which is still under construction, so at the moment along with medical and associated costs they are paying rent and mortgage payments. If our wonderful Magpie community could dig deep for Jake, please do so via the GoFundMe link below https://www.gofundme.com/f/lend-a-hand-to-jake-hollie #MagpieCommunity

08.01.2022 Vale George Henderson - Life Member The Sherwood Football club mourns the recent loss of George Henderson on December 15 just 6 days after his 80th birthday. George was a Western Districts player in the QAFL of some repute who then moved on to Captain/Coach their reserves for many years. Upon retirement as a player, George began a distinguished coaching career at Sherwood, looking after either the u15 or u17 sides for a period of just over 15 years.... He was an incredibly successful coach during this time, both in on field results and also developing future senior players at Sherwood. Players of the ilk of Des Lashman, Craig St. John, the O'Neill's, Greg Adams and so many more enjoyed stints under the coaching of George. A diminutive figure, George gave many years service in the volunteer coaching role and for this he was awarded Life Membership in 1981. Condolences to the Henderson family for the loss of a wonderful man.
