22.04.2022 Did some more work on the breastplate and crupper for my pad saddle. Found these lovely beads in a little fabric shop in town. They are actually metal and not plastic! Even the shop owner didn't know she had them. Waiting on some more of the dragon heads/medusas to arrive to finish it off. I'll give it a run on Athos on Friday.
17.04.2022 Lovely drive over the mountains to pick up my Scythian arrows made for me by @coppergatetechnology . Thank you Wayne, they are gorgeous! Stopped at Blackheath on the way home for a coffee, amd to visit the antique store there. Found this little bag that would be useful to carry some bits in with my Scythian impression. It was cheap, so grabbed it. And the breastplate for my pad saddle I am working on. I'll also make a matching crupper.... Cedar foot and nock insert, iron oxide and carbon black in oil, chalk in hide glue to secure the feathers and sinew binding. Bamboo shafts, head cast from a 6th C original by Manning Imperial. Design based on finds in the British Museum and a red figure vase.
25.01.2022 We had about 7 inches of snow here over the weekend! So perfect opportunity to try the Scythian clothing and armour out. Wool keeps you so nice and warm. No so sure that Athos was that excited about it ;P In other news, bronze armour is freezing in cold conditions!

22.01.2022 What a weekend. Had a great time Marshaling the joust. I got Athos out for his first major public display. He was a bit overwhelmed by it all but didn't put a foot wrong. I even finally got a photo with Zorro courtesy of Full Flight!!! All fired up to kick on with our Scythian impressions again!... I did cheat and put a saddle on underneath the goat skin due to getting absolutely no training time in in the lead up due to work, the weather and my back just calling it quits.
22.01.2022 A gorgeous day for a ride out. As usual I rode in my Scythian kit on the pad saddle. The breastplate and crupper aren't quite finished, but I got to test them out as well. Couple of changes and they will be finished. The only way to get comfortable riding bareback over all sorts of ground whilst wearing the equipment, is to just do it. We had some steep descents today that gave my thighs a workout ;P In fact, riding like this gives your whole body a workout!
20.01.2022 Hi all, we are still here, just quite as we have been very busy with other work. We won't get any real free weekends until July, so will look at doing something then. I might have a little free time this weekend, if I can I'll jump on Athos and test out some Koc Nocks that have just arrived.
20.01.2022 Awesome first day here teaching skill at arms and horse archery to the Grong Grong Ganmain Pony Club. Another big day tomorrow. All the horses and riders have been doing great. We have 12 students aged from 7 to 21 and they have all been rocking it!

16.01.2022 Aaaaand then it got silly. :P
15.01.2022 Covid Pending. Hosting an immersive Ancients Assembly over the October Long Weekend. I will be playing Scythian of course, but any ancients welcome,,,,,even Romans ;P
10.01.2022 We might start looking at a date for another horse archery weekend. Due to a busy calendar, it may be more towards the colder part of the year. oooo Winter Camp ;)
09.01.2022 Even though it was only about 2 degrees today, we got out for some practice with Athos and Crusader. We haven't done anything since early March and have a demo coming up in mid August, so thought we had better get back on the boys. :P
07.01.2022 Still working away on our Scythian impressions. Got out into the forest and mountains yesterday for a ride. This is great training for riding without a saddle or stirrups. Lots of ups and downs. I'll be starting on making all new more period clothing this weekend. Also making a gorytus and a Scythian pad saddle. The saddle is basically a decorated felt pad.
06.01.2022 Raining today and it is lovely. So made a Scythian-esque saddle. Really it is just a felt pad with rolls at the front and back and covered in a heavy upholstery style cloth. It's comfortable and looks the part. I'll add some more suitable decoration to it and go a bit nuts on the breast plate and crupper. I do have PDF on making a proper Scythian saddle based on a find. I'd like to give that a go one day.... I have been sewing for the last two weeks and my clothing is finished as well. See more
04.01.2022 In a bit of a state of flux at the moment. Tossing up what direction to go with our horse archery pursuits. Either way, working away on my personal Scythian kit. I had a fitting yesterday with the armourer making my bronze greaves! They are spectacular! When they are finished and polished they will look amazing. My bronze scales and felted wool also arrived yesterday.... The scales will be used to make thigh defences and the wool will become a Scythian saddle. I will also have some period Scythian arrows made, complete with bronze heads! See more
