25.01.2022 Meet Akram & Joumana, two of the #ASRCTelethon heroes this year. "We had everything. Then overnight we had nothing except for the clothes we were wearing. When... we came to Australia we couldn't speak English. On the street, people would say hello, and even though we couldn't have a long conversation, that was enough to make us feel welcome." This family has worked their way up in Australia and today, they are the proud owners of Trio Pastry Sweets And Nuts. Joumana says "I wanted to build a business for my family. So I decided to sell traditional Syrian sweet pastries like baklava. I had only ever made them back home for friends and family, so I practised every day to create the perfect recipe. By the end of the week, there would be a pile knee-high of practice pastries!".
