23.01.2022 A Contest of Beauties, Spring Dawn: Applying Moxa by Utagawa Kunisada (Toyokuni III) Little bit of moxibustion history: Moxa has been used for centuries dating back to the Yin dynasty (1600 BC - 1046 BC)... v long time ... It has also played an important role in traditional medicine used in China, Tibet, Japan, Korea, Vietnam and Mongolia Moxa feels like wool under the finger tips, but it is made from a plant... this has always surprised me. To make moxa from mugwort, you use a pestle of the stone mortar to roughly grind and crush the leaves. From there it is put through a sieve separating the stalks creating low grade moxa. Further grinding, sieving and winnowing creates A grade moxa. I’m pretty fascinated by it, as you can tell

21.01.2022 Trauma-informed body based therapies in sexual assault program evaluation The Western Region Centre Against Sexual Assault in Melbourne (WestCASA) has released an evaluation of their body based therapies provided to sexual assault victims/survivors. This decade long program concentrates on Shiatsu and Yoga as a completing therapy with current psychotherapeutic intervention. Super excited for my mentor and friend Alex Caldwell and her work in this program.... If you’re interested in reading the evaluation, I’ve included a link on my profile. If you’re curious about using shiatsu as a supportive body based therapy alongside your talk therapy, feel free to get in contact
19.01.2022 The magic of Moxa The herb Ai Ye or mugwort is used in herbal medicine formulas and processed into a wool like substance that we burn near the skin. Other moxa products allow us to use the herb directly on the skin, or attached to acupuncture needles. ... In treatment we use moxa to add heat, to move or energise a specific locations on the body
19.01.2022 One of my favourite ways to move the tension held around the shoulder blade. In this session we are focusing on the areas where surfers carry the most tension; postural back muscles, shoulders, neck, and calves. Using a Traditional Chinese Medicine framework, the Kidney meridian is being supported with moxa on the lower back to invigorate the bodies Yang/warmth as it can be affected by the icy water down the surf coast.... Lastly, based on pulse diagnosis I’ve utilised the main acupressure points that move Qi and tension in the body, the 4 gates, Liver 3 and Large Intestine 4.
18.01.2022 Cupping session for me this morning. My neck has been stretched to its limit this week reading books, phone use, and study. Felt so nice to be horizontal with some vacuum sealed cups moving all that stuck Qi and Blood... Photo and cupping by my fantastic housemate

16.01.2022 NADA Protocol ear acupuncture on a Saturday morning. So inspired by the film Dope is Death. I’ve never had ear acupuncture before and was a bit nervous that it would hurt since there isn’t much skin. But the needles almost glided straight into the spot without any pain.... When adding the sympathetic point in, my body immediately felt so heavy and relaxed that I almost couldn’t put the rest in. If you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, drug addiction, smoking, migraines or maybe you know someone who is. Acupuncture might be something of interest. Acupuncture can be expensive and not affordable for everyone, the Wellington Community Acupuncture clinic has been set up as a detox centre and reduce cost clinic in Collingwood. Please refer someone here if they might find benefit

Have you been anxiously waiting for the postie to drop something at your door??

07.01.2022 Palpation Used for relieving conditions in the clinic and also used as another form of diagnosis. Sourced from Applied Channel Theory in Chinese Medicine in Chapter 12 - Physiology under the fingertips
06.01.2022 New tools! Now to teach myself a facial routine with these cute cups. It’s too bad my housemate has a beard, I’ll just have to practice on myself
02.01.2022 Hey there! Do you know much about bulbs? Maybe you have a recommendation on how best to store them over summer? I’m worried I might end up destroying them
01.01.2022 Kidney/Adrenal holding This example is without the hands of the practitioner. Via Telehealth or used as a solo body technique while the practitioner is present with the intention of holding. This holding invites a felt sense of safety in the container of the body. Building on the capacity to regulate arousal, protect oneself and gain insight into the body experience.... One of Alaine Duncan’s tools I have been using in clinic for hyperarousal and hypoarousal. In one picture I’ve used a towel, in the next I’ve used a heat bag to warm the Kidney. An incredible resource for body based practitioners and people with experience in traditional medicine The Tao of Trauma by Alaine D. Duncan @ West Footscray, Victoria
