03.05.2022 Q. Should you be the face of your brand? A. Yep, you should IF: + You're a service business + It's just you (or mainly you) in the business... + Your customers will have direct contact with you + Your copy uses the first person "I" + Your name is in the business name Which means that you should absolutely include images of yourself on your website. I was recently chatting with @samoneshepherdson about this for hew new site (which I wrote ), and it's something a lot of biz owners feel unsure about. But if people expect to work directly with you and you use "I" in your website copy and communications, you are essentially the face of your brand. You don't need to splash your face all over every touchpoint. Do what's right for *you*. But anything that makes your brand more human - like your lovely face - is instantly more compelling. So go on, be brave! Put your face out there, as far as you feel comfortable. P.S Sometimes a little discomfort is a good thing! P.P.S Thanks to @jessieparker.co for teaching me how to get my GIF on

24.04.2022 The one thing so many biz owners get wrong when writing their own copy is focusing on your product/service features. No one cares about those - yet. Go on, tap it. Instead? It’s all about the benefits, features and the outcome or how your customer will feel after using your brand.... Link with video lays it all out for you. https://www.shinecopy.com.au//stop-making-this-common-copy

31.03.2022 Pumped to be a The Clever Copywriting School copybeast for the third year! It means I’m always learning, sharpening the ol’ writing tools with endless masterclasses from Kate Toon and brain bumping with other copywriters.

24.01.2022 Grammer wariors untie.

23.01.2022 Let’s talk stuffing for a second. The keyword kind, not the Christmas turkey kind. SEO copy has gotta make sense to humans to make sense to Google. In that order. ... I repeat: Humans first, search engines second. Donut drop in your keywords just for the sake of it. You use them where it makes natural sense in your copy. Not sure how? Read it aloud: if it feels clunky and you stumble over yourself, Google will too. Your take away from this post? Write like you talk. @studio_ampersand

23.01.2022 How a copywriter’s brain works. Current status: Whhyyyyyyyyyyyyy???

20.01.2022 Something’s going on in the world that doesn’t sit right with me. the ethical move sums it up: The world is shaped by how we buy and sell: we are trapped in an endless loop of wanting and buying more. For a long time I’ve thought about how this plays out as a business owner and as a sustainably focused human. ... And now I'm making a pledge with @theethicalmove because I'm over the shade and haze that comes with sales BS. Sales isn't about taking your bucks. It's about meeting a need and solving an actual problem. Not convincing people to buy landfill they don't need because we're enslaved in this mindset of want, buy, consume. I'm breaking that buy-buy-brainwash. My ethical pledge includes: I will change pricing from "charm prices'"($297) to round numbers ($300). I won't use countdown timers to drive a sale. This is a pressure-free space. I am honest about availability. No false scarcity. I am transparent in my email list building. I deliver the value I promise pitch-conscious. i.e no bait and switch. I will not use social issues to leverage my marketing. No woke washing here. I will not make false promises in my sales and marketing. Shady marketing tactics are what you won’t find with me. I'm black and white - except when I'm vibrantly filling your feed with colour.

19.01.2022 Haven’t posted in forever days. My business didn’t die. Enquiries didn’t slow. ... Panic didn’t set in. Liberation did! There’s more to running a successful business than slogging your socials. There’s more to living a joyful life than breathing your business 24/7. There’s more to life than likes and a pretty feed. Like... actually doing the work. Connecting with clients in real life. Planning for 2021. Proofing copy decks. Doing some brand work for my own rebrand and website. Exploring beaches and pockets of Sydney I’ve never seen before. Preparing for Christmas. Pre school graduation. Getting together with friends. Learning to make kokedama. And all the other mumlife things that have needed more attention than FB lately. Now, here I am. Hurtling towards Christmas, holidays and taking life a little slower.

19.01.2022 If you're a WordPress user you'll know about Yoast's red, orange, green lights rating the SEO of your content. But here's the thing... You could load up your keywords in every sentence, get the Yoast green light and not rank for a single thing. ... Yoast only rates your content on your specified focus keyword. It doesn't recognise synonyms, secondary phrases, plurals or partial matches. Good SEO copy doesn't make you sound like a robot repeating keywords all over the place - so don't stress out if Yoast doesn't green light your page content. Instead... Sprinkle your keywords like chia on a smoothie. Don't slather them over your page like Nutella on a crepe. Why? Because Google rewards you for natural copy that uses keywords in a human way. Comment if this is helpful. Tag if you want to share it with a biz buddy Share if you dig it!

19.01.2022 Want to know why NOT to write just to make Google happy? Because you’ll sound like a robot. You’ll be keyword stuffing. ... You’ll ignore what users want - empathy for their situations and solutions for their problems. You won’t show your humanness. And all of that will tell the Goog that your content is as irrelevant as a floppy disc in your cloud. Your take away? People first, search engines second. @jesuso_ortiz See more

17.01.2022 If I’m clouding around on a puff of satisfaction with this gold star feedback from Alix Helps Interiors - imagine how incredibly excited she’s feeling! I’m cheering on her success and the life changing effect she has on her client’s lives. And I’m celebrating this win for Alix because when she launches her rebranded website, she’ll be right where she wants to be. With copy that goes ZING for a brand that’s love at first HI. Alix is already an interiors goddess wit...h a queue of people waiting to work with her team. And now? Alix’s website will work smarter to filter her followers into ideal clients who are ready, set, go. Keep your eyes in my feed for Alix’s shiny new website, launching soon!

17.01.2022 Wowsers! That’s was a full ON first day back in the copywriting playground! I had a new client meeting, research for my next lovely biz in queue @cielomassage, fielded a few enquiries and had a meeting with Laura @thedesignroomau for some brand clarity. All with children home + some extras to keep them occupied. I didn’t plan to thunder in on my new working year like that but ...it’s just how it played out. Are you dipping your toe back in to work or are you attacking it like a magpie in spring?

16.01.2022 Do you feel like your own values and your business values merge into one? It’s hard to separate them - especially If you’re a one woman show. You’re probably the face, heart, mind and grit behind your brand. You pour your soul into your work and meld this entity that’s just like you but it’s got an ABN, profit power and a digital HQ. I’m the same and that’s why what you see online is what I value: ... Cheerleading small business Shining the spotlight on biz women doing great things for the world Sustainable, handmade creations Down to earth words, sprinkled with SEO If you are true to yourself, you’ll attract clients who share those same values.

16.01.2022 Give good generously this Christmas with these eco ideas from the kind peeps at Ekkoworld. Yep, it's just 5 weeks away so with Australia Post shipping times longer than the longest piece of string, it's time to get your head out of the sand and start ticking off your gift list. https://ekko.world/gifts-to-wow-even-your-notsoeco-f/221360

14.01.2022 You are worth more than what you do. More than what you sell. More than what your customers pay. ... More than the price you put on yourself. Customers pay for your expertise, skills, style, time and the experience they’ll have with you. And that’s not even considering your product/service benefits and all the things they help people with. Never ever look at your price, profit or productivity as an indication of your worth. You are doing great things. You make a difference. You change lives. See more
