23.01.2022 Opinion. My perspective for the week.... We have many doctors, nurses and now pharmacists on the front line of essential services... They are hero's along w...ith all others considered as essential. I am one of the true believers that hairdressing is an essential service... For centuries and for many, a trip to the hairdresser is the only affordable psychology session that they wouldn't otherwise be able to afford. If you can do it safely then why not join the thousands of frontline hero's in this crisis and play your part. Our industry leaders and influencers call for respect of hairdressers. They bang on about feeling disrespected because of not being able to close. On the contrary, my perspective makes me believe the total opposite. I see an offering here, I see an opportunity for hairdressers to be finally elevated to a respectable stature in society and shine in the community and finally be counted as essential. Our industry leaders need to show encouragement for this concept. Yes there are those looking for a handout or after a stay at home paid holiday, our industry leaders shouldn't encourage that thought. In my experience this last week I have seen some previously quiet individuals really come out amd take up the challenge. I believe our leaders should be positively encouraging heroism at this stage and empowering those that are able to embrace the honour.of being classified as essential. It's time to rejoice and make your mark hairdressers .
