25.01.2022 To all my beautiful kids and their families. "We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day."

25.01.2022 Friday is ‘are you ok?’ day.

22.01.2022 Enjoying this beautiful weather

21.01.2022 Self care is so important as a parent. Sometimes, everyone just needs some ‘downtime’ to recharge. For me, it’s unplugging from all technology and enjoying the simple things in life like a walk in the sun, a cup of tea whilst reading in bed.

21.01.2022 Definitely worth sharing again.

09.01.2022 A lot of parents ask me for some advice for first day of school jitters. Here are some pointers to ease the stress of the first day. 1/ Talk your child through what is going to happen and at point you will leave. Letting them know the plan will help ease some anxiety. You can even do a few practice runs if you leaving is a stress for them. Also let them know that there might be some children who might get sad when their Mummy’s leave but they are ok, so your child doesn’t n...eed to get worried. 2/ Try and arrive early so you can head into the classroom first and get them settled or even distracted by playing a game. That way, they might not notice all the chaos that happening around 3/ If they are becoming distressed when you leave, try and get the assistant teacher to give them some jobs to do to ‘help’ them as this will take the focus off you leaving. Another option is finding a friend and putting your child next to them on the mat when you leave. 5/ Lots and lots of heavy work before first day of school so that their Central Nervous systems are more relaxed. 6/ Most of all, you need to remain as calm as possible as seeing you flustered will escalate their emotions. Even if you aren’t feeling calm, fake it . 7/ Give them something special of yours that they can put in their pocket. Then if they are worried, they can put their hand in their pocket and feel it. The Kissing hand is a great book to read as well. Good luck everyone

09.01.2022 Shine OT will be closing for summer holidays on Wednesday 18th December. I will be open again for business on Monday 20th January 2020. I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and enjoys a relaxing summer break.

09.01.2022 People often say to me, "you can't keep your children in a bubble". And I reply, "it's not a bubble, it's a greenhouse." A bubble stifles growth and blocks out... nutrients. A greenhouse provides an environment for cultivation. Children’s hearts need to be greenhoused before they’re ready to be transplanted out into the world. We release when their roots are deep and they are mature enough to withstand the storms, not beforehand. While they're still under our protection, we take the responsibility for engaging them in learning about different cultures, ideologies and values. They should only know worldly teachings enough that they will be inoculated against them. It's neither parenting out of fear or legalism, nor going to the opposite extreme of being too permissive. No, our kids shouldn't grow up in a bubble. But they shouldn't be left exposed to the harsh outside elements, either. The greenhouse of our home has all the right conditions for those young seeds to grow and flourish.

07.01.2022 So important to have this discussion with your children.
