21.01.2022 Without a doubt - this has been a tough year for many Victorians. And the pandemic has made clear some of the very real cracks in our mental health system. It's why we announced Australia's first Royal Commission into Mental Health in 2018 - and why we promised to implement every single one of its recommendations.... Today's $868.6 million investment will deliver on the Interim Report findings - and go even further. We know this is a problem that can't be solved overnight. And there's still a long way to go before we have the system we need - and Victorians deserve. It's a big job but it can be done. It has to be. Dan Andrews #royalcommission #mentalhealth #ABCnews

16.01.2022 Someone who has been touched by suicide a huge amount is Australian Rules football legend Dermott Brereton. It's so great and so powerful seeing someone not only of his stature but also his background publicly supporting a cause such as It's okay, not to be okay. https://www.facebook.com/itsoknottobeok//1351563831863528 Sold Out Productions Geelong
16.01.2022 Patrick Diederich is riding his bicycle from New York on the east coast of the USA to San Francisco on the west coast. He is also asking people who pass him to Honk4Hope as he tries to shine a light on suicide prevention and mental health awareness. Staggeringly, in 2018 there were almost 50,000 suicides in the USA alone, with more than 1.4 million reported attempts. The way we, as a human race, can start to turn this around is by normalising the conversation around suicide. Talking about it as much as possible - because the more we get it out there, the more people will feel comfortable to speak up when they are struggling. For further details regarding Patrick's ride here's the GoFundME page link: https://au.gofundme.com/f/ctnw22-honk4hope Sold Out Productions Geelong
14.01.2022 When I replied that I wasn’t OK, he took a moment and said he was sorry to hear things weren’t going well and asked what he could do to help. I was relieved he... didn’t try to ‘fix’ me or jump to offering solutions. I felt heard and understood. R U OK? Community Ambassador Ryan Daykin shares how a conversation with a mate helped him feel reassured and understood during a difficult time. #theresmoretosay #ruok #ruokday

12.01.2022 Hey everyone. I am not at all familiar with the app "TikTok" but, according to this article, the app is setting challenges - particularly popular with adolescents - whereby they must complete a certain number of activities within a certain timeframe. At the end of it, according to the article, the app then encourages users to commit suicide. Is this correct? Can someone please enlighten me? If this is correct it is extremely alarming: https://www.news.com.au///233773c5f7fa522ce039960413c58ad7 Sold Out Productions Geelong

10.01.2022 As part of the New South Wales state government's "Towards Zero" campaign, a new system is being put in place which gives real time updates on the background of suicides, in order to quickly identify any clusters that may emerge and bring in assistance as promptly as possible. Between January and September of this year, the Australian state of New South Wales had 673 suicides, a number which remains steady from the previous year. There did appear some instances of clusters among these numbers, particularly in the Northern Beaches of Sydney area: https://www.news.com.au///83d2177e92fa3d8a0ed3ed196b0ac169 Sold Out Productions Geelong
10.01.2022 Fantastic news!!! The Australian federal and Victorian state governments have combined to provide grants totalling $16 million Australian to create the "Danny Frawley Centre for Health & Wellbeing" at RSEA Park (Moorabbin Oval), the home of St Kilda Football Club. This facility will be a community facility with resources for mental health, physical health and rehabilitation and facilities for wellbeing programs to be conducted for schools and community groups. It's such a ter...rific initiative to have all these services under the one roof. This is the sort of community mental health spaces that cities and towns across the world need to have. It makes things far more convenient and the level of care increases dramatically. The late, great Danny Frawley would be chuffed at this. It will be a terrific asset for the local community in bayside Melbourne, Australia: https://www.afl.com.au//frawley-legacy-lives-on-with-new-c Sold Out Productions Geelong

07.01.2022 Hey everyone. Today comes news that former professional Australian Rules footballer Shane Tuck, who committed suicide last year aged 38, had the most severe case of CTE ever seen by doctors in Australia. Interestingly, Shane never suffered a major concussion during his football or boxing career, but instead suffered many "sub-concussive" episodes which built up over time and caused this issue. This article could be enlightening to people who have played contact sport not only here in Australia but around the world. Please recognise the signs you or someone close to you could be in trouble and, hopefully, medical advancements will continue and soon there'll be some treatment for people who are suffering from this debilitating condition: https://www.theage.com.au//shane-tuck-had-severe-cte-brain Sold Out Productions Geelong
