23.01.2022 Here’s some pictures from a recent survey of the ruins of Thomas Gribble’s homestead in Gungahlin, ACT. It’s quite an amazing little site on Gungahlin Drive, with remains from various phases of occupation from 1869 through until the 1960s.

22.01.2022 Oh yeah, love this country!

22.01.2022 Team meeting at the Tathra Hotel. Shining a light on the team and the venue.

21.01.2022 The Lantern Team has been shining a light on the iconic Light to Light walk. We even got an up close view of one of the first whales on it’s journey south. Love this job, love this stretch of coast.

20.01.2022 A few quick pictures from the current adventure in the NT. @ Gunbalanya

19.01.2022 I’d really encourage people to check this out and hopefully donate.

19.01.2022 The charming State heritage listed railway station at Bundanoon.

14.01.2022 We have had a very stressful past week, and we aren’t out of the woods yet. After spending a few days evacuated to Merimbula, we are now back home and I am trying to get back to dealing with a bit of work. However, the weather is forecast to deteriorate later in the week, and we expect we may need to evacuate again. Our vehicles are still packed with essentials, treasured items and work equipment, ready for the worst...hoping it won’t come to that. We have been very lucky so ...far. Others have not. Our hearts go out to all those who are caught up in this disaster of a fire season, especially those who have lost homes, businesses and loved ones. On a positive note, here’s a shout out to our nation’s heroes, the fire fighters who are working day after day, week after week, and month after month to save lives and properties. We salute you all, and all the other people who are supporting the fire fighters and the displaced people and animals across this fire ravaged land.

13.01.2022 A recent job. Always great to get some feedback. https://www.bluemountainsgazette.com.au//fires-reveal-ind/

13.01.2022 There’s so much to love about our job, and then we get to go places like this on a day when the Sapphire Coast is showing off all the reasons we love living and working here.

11.01.2022 One of the reasons behind setting up Lantern Heritage was to create opportunities to be involved in projects beyond the traditional sphere of cultural heritage management. In particular, I wanted to find opportunities to collaborate on research. This is an example of just one project Lantern Heritage has become involved with in the past year. I had an incredible time last April doing fieldwork with staff and students from Macquarie University, and the preliminary results of that project are now in print. Massive thanks to Shawn Ross, Adela Sobotkova and the rest of the team for inviting me to be a part of this fascinating project.

08.01.2022 Experimental archaeology is something that has always fascinated me. Over the last 6-7 months I’ve been spending some time trying my hand at stone knapping. I’ve still got a long way to go, but here are some examples of my efforts thus far.

08.01.2022 Here’s an interesting link and short video on the excellent work in landcare management being undertaken by the Bega Local Aboriginal Land Council. https://mobile.abc.net.au//indigenous-burning-be/10258140

07.01.2022 Any guesses as to where I am today?

07.01.2022 Who knows what this is?

07.01.2022 This aligns so well with the ethos of Lantern Heritage: Shining a light on people and place. It prompted me to look up the meaning of Wallagoot, where I live and work - http://www.gnb.nsw.gov.au/place_n/placename_search/extract Place of wild cats.

06.01.2022 I’ve neglected social media the first half of this year because I have been working flat out. Here’s some photos of one of the great projects I’ve been working on. Survey of the Ruined Castle mining settlement, conducted in collaboration with the Blue Mountains World Heritage Institute and Macquarie University. I’ll put some pics up from other projects in the coming weeks. @ Blue Mountains National Park

05.01.2022 Heading south and having a ball.

03.01.2022 Hoping that this will be a fun evening with good outcomes for students and consultants. Looking forward to running the trivia!

02.01.2022 Today our team embarked on a fascinating project with Tathra locals Rex Kermode and Dave Greenland to investigate the remains of the town’s World War II dugout. This is where the Volunteer Defence Corps kept watch for enemy ships and aircraft as part of Australia’s Coast Watchers.

01.01.2022 Had an awesome time yesterday exploring sandstone country north of Sydney with Darkinjung Local Aboriginal Land Council. It’s an amazing privilege to be able to visit places like this and have the local custodians share their heritage with us.
