24.01.2022 Celebrate NAIDOC week by taking part in one of Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm's cultural experiences. http://www.cygnetbaypearlfarm.com.au/cultural-experiences/ Learn about how the local Bardi people of this area were some of the first people to appreciate the beauty of pearl shell. The history of Aboriginal people traditionally using pearlshell dates back to 22,000 years ago. These people have shaped and engraved pearl shell to celebrate country and traditions and they continue to value both Guwan (undecorated shell) and Riji (engraved shell) today. 23.01.2022 We recently received a lovely letter from Trevor Foote, one of the founders of Shinju. With it he enclosed these fantastic photos from the first ever Shinju Matsuri in 1970.
