10.05.2022 Auckland is now at Alert Level 3 and the rest of New Zealand is now at Alert Level 2 for seven days. We are asking that people in Auckland stay home, and work a...nd study from home if possible. The border around Auckland will be re-established, which includes Port Waikato. For information on the Auckland boundary, please see our website: https://covid19.govt.nz/alert-system/alert-level-boundaries/ Travel in and out of Auckland is for essential travel only. Those who received a border exemption when Auckland was moved into Level 3 earlier in the month, will not need to reapply. Those exemptions will be reactivated. If you are an Aucklander, you can travel to Auckland to return home. You should not travel out of the region unless you have to. If you go outside your home maintain physical distancing of 2 metres, or 1 metre in controlled environments where you know the others present. We are asking children to stay home from school. In Alert Level 3 schools (years 1 to 10) and Early Childhood Education centres can open for children whose parents need to be at work. Supermarkets, pharmacies, primary produce retailers, and petrol stations can remain open. All testing locations are available here: https://www.healthpoint.co.nz It’s important the right people can get access to testing so please don’t rush to a centre if you are well, or if you weren’t at one of the locations of interest. We are anticipating high demand at our COVID-19 testing sites and delays are possible, so please be patient. If you have symptoms but have not been to a location of interest stay home and call Healthline for advice. For the rest of New Zealand: Businesses and schools remain open. You must wear a face covering on public transport and aircrafts. Mass gatherings are limited to 100 people.

18.03.2022 2020 has been tough to say the least and we are all dealing with it in different ways. Remember that it is as important as ever to reach out to our friends and family to ask R U OK? A conversation can save a life. If you're not feeling ok, don't suffer in isolation, reach out and have a chat. Talking about what you're dealing with can help. 09.03.2022 Update on our Public Health Response We are taking a rapid response to break the chain of transmission through contact tracing, testing and gathering of info...rmation. The family are still in strict self-isolation at home and we are working with them on whether all or some of them might go into a quarantine facility in Auckland. Following further interviews with the people who have tested positive, it has been revealed that one of the cases, a woman in her 20s, travelled to Rotorua on Saturday whilst she was symptomatic. We’re working with urgency to find out what places this woman might have visited in Rotorua over the weekend. People in Rotorua and around the country should be vigilant and seek advice if they have any symptoms. There are currently testing sites in Rotorua and in Taupo. In Rotorua the testing site is on Vaughn Road. There will be an additional pop up testing centre opening tomorrow and that site will be announced for locals. Just remember that this virus does not discriminate. There is no shame and stigma on having contracted it. We want to find the virus and we will support anyone who has it to ensure their health and well being are well looked after and we stop the spread in the community. None of our active cases requires hospital-level care. We know that this has caused alarm and anxiety for many of us. If we all do our bit, we will get through this. We are working hard to put the pieces of the puzzle to find out how this family got infected. Work is progressing to follow their movements and contact trace anyone who may have had contact with the family who has tested positive. We are testing all close and casual contacts of the people who have tested positive. None of the workplaces where there is a risk are public- facing and all appropriate health actions are being taken. All the staff in the first case’s workplaces are considered close contacts. That’s a total of 130 people. The person only has close contact in a small team but we are treating everyone as close contacts. It has been shut down and everyone is being tested. There are 3 of the husband’s colleagues who are being tested and isolated. Their households are also in isolation. That workplace is in 4 sites around Auckland, with a total of about 160 staff. They are all shut down now and everyone is being followed up and tested. We are also doing genome sequencing on all those who have tested positive and our recent cases in managed isolation and quarantine. This will help us track the possible source of the virus. Our national contact tracing centre has 140 people on standby to support Auckland regional public health. Healthline has been very busy as we anticipated with high volumes of calls. They have an extra 60 staff already and we will be increasing that. We’re prepared to test thousands of people in the coming days. Staff from DHBS are being redeployed to testing centres both in the community and to do testing in Managed Isolation and Quarantine facilities. We have stock of more than 270,000 tests available across the country with more stock coming in at all times. We can process more than 12,000 tests per day and we are looking to increase this over the next few days. The best thing we can do now is to comply with key public health measures around hand hygiene and physical distancing. We are also recommending the use of face coverings, particularly in the Auckland region. On testing in Auckland We ask that if you have any symptoms or if it is recommended that you get tested, please get tested. If you have no symptoms, if you don’t work at the border or MIQ and you’re feeling well, then please comply with the level restrictions Aged care We must take extra precaution to look after our most vulnerable people in aged care. From midday today, all aged care facilities throughout New Zealand will close their doors to everyone but staff and essential deliveries from noon today We’re working with the sector to ensure that staff don’t work across multiple sites and facilities We realise how difficult this will be for those who have loved ones living in these facilities, but situations overseas have taught us that this is the safest approach at this stage. Details around alert levels are available on our website covid19.govt.nz. Countdown and Foodstuffs have a supply of masks for sale. We are also releasing 5 million masks from our central supply to support distribution in areas where they are needed. We are also looking at provision or masks and food parcels via social services for those who may be more vulnerable. You can fashion your own face covering if needed. We have mandated mask use in one environment at this stage - that is for flights leaving Auckland. Air NZ will be providing these on departures. You are able to depart Auckland if you are going to your place of residence. The Prime Minister and the Director-General will have another media conference at 4pm today. See more

24.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE: MORE INFORMATION COMING We have four confirmed cases of COVID-19 in one family acquired from an unknown source. The index case is a perso...n in their 50s who lives in South Auckland. They were swabbed yesterday, and the swab was processed twice. A second swab has been taken today confirms the positive result. The person has been symptomatic for five days and has been interviewed by Auckland Regional Public Health. The person has no overseas travel history. As is our usual protocol we have traced and continue to trace close and casual contacts of this person and getting them tested for COVID-19. This has included household contacts of the case who received a rapid test this evening. Three of these tests have also come back positive and we are awaiting three further results. All close contacts will remain in self-isolation for 14 days, regardless of their test result, and all casual contacts will remain in self isolation until they have returned a negative test. In addition, we are working over the next few days to test all people that are working at our borders and everyone that works at a managed isolation facility. There will also be no barriers to anyone that has cold and flu symptoms getting tested. Testing is free. If you are offered a test, please take it. In Auckland the four community testing centres in Northcote, Grafton, Henderson and Wiri will be operating with more staff and extra hours. The testing centres in Auckland, Waitemata and Counties Manukau are all prepared for receiving more people. Details will be on our website tonight. The three DHBs in Auckland are planning pop up clinics over coming days and they will publicise the locations and hours of these clinics. The Ministry will be working closely with DHBs and primary care around the country to ensure additional testing capacity is available to meet an expected increase in demand. As we’ve been saying for several weeks, it was inevitable that New Zealand would get another case of community transmission. We have been working on the basis that it could be at any time and that time is now. The health system is well prepared for this eventuality and the important thing now is that we don’t let the virus spread in our community. As we did in the early days of this virus emerging, we need to stamp it out. There are things that every single New Zealander needs to do now: - Continue or get back to stringent hand hygiene, sneeze and cough into your elbow. - If you or a family member are unwell please stay at home and contact Healthline or your GP about getting a test. - Practice physical distancing of two meters wherever possible. - Consider wearing a mask in public spaces or places where it is hard to physically distance. If you have any concerns please seek advice from Healthline or your GP on getting a test. If you have not already, please use this opportunity to download the NZ COVID Tracer app. This will give us your up to date contact details, so if we need to get in touch with you for contact tracing purposes, we can do so quickly. If you have fallen out of the habit of recording your movements as you go about your day, this case is a reminder of why it is so important. You can still use the manual function on the app to record where you have been recently, and scan in using QR codes going forward. A reminder too, for businesses please have a QR code displayed so your customers can be traced quickly if required. Our contact tracing team will be getting in touch with anyone identified as being a contact of this case. Please be responsive if you are contacted return the call. This case is a wake-up call against any complacency that may have set in. We cannot afford to let this virus spread. We have seen how quickly it can lead to a wider resurgence in communities overseas. Places that have had COVID-19 under control have seen flare-ups and gone back into a full lockdown. We are working to not let that happen here. We’ve done this before and we can do it again. See more
