19.01.2022 #3: & : Families without a system for household work can get very resentful, very quickly. I’ve been in these relationships and so have my friends.... In a landmark survey, SBS and Macquarie University discovered that 86% of Australian women do the majority of the household work. The consensus seems women spend much more of their time cooking, cleaning, and taking care of children, compared to their husbands. Women also spent more time multitasking, often juggling meal preparation with cleaning tasks and childcare. I grade household work into three categories: Household maintenance: home organisation, managing clutter etc Household chores: meal preparation, cleaning, gardening etc Childcare: bathing, dressing, feeding, putting to bed etc I’ve raised my son ostensibly on my own and at 15, he is responsible for contributing towards 50% of the household work. From a young age, I taught him to wash dishes and clothes, iron, mop, vacuum, sweep, garden, clean up, organise, and babysit. I wasn’t about to build a rod for his wife’s back! You name it, he does it. ! ’ . HHW = household work

16.01.2022 ( ) Can’t find hand sanitizer at your local supermarket or pharmacy? You’re not alone. My local shops sold out weeks ago. Fortunately, hand sanitiser is easy and inexpensive to make right at home. I made a batch this morning, from a recipe that is recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO). Fortunately, I found a scaled down version (by science geek G. Chang) for home use.... The mixture is not as thick as commercial hand sanitisers, so you can use it in a spritzer bottle too. To make 1 1/3 cups of hand sanitiser, mix up the following in a 2-cup glass measure: 1: 1 cup 99% Isopropyl alcohol OR 1 cup plus 4 teaspoons 91% Isopropyl alcohol 2: 1 tablespoon 3% hydrogen peroxide 3: 1 teaspoon vegetable glycerine 4: Boiled and cooled tap water (bring tap water to a rolling boil for 1 minute and cool) 1: Tip the alcohol, peroxide and vegetable glycerine into a 2-cup glass measure. Then add enough water to bring the total quantity to 1 1/3 cups. Mix well. 2: Pour, via funnel, the sanitiser into small bottles. I used squeeze-type bottles, but spritzer, or spray-type bottles are ideal. : The Department of Health recommend hand washing with soap and water is sufficient, providing we scrub thoroughly (including our fingernails) for at least 20 seconds. You can watch this video recommended by the Dept of Health by clicking on the link at the end of this post. There are times however, when you don’t have access to soap and water. Like when you are forced to eat in your car, after stopping by your favourite donut shop. (Mea culpa). Or, when the grocery shop restroom has run out of soap, or the bathroom is so gross that you wouldn’t dream of washing your hands there anyway. Yep, bottles of hand sanitiser can be convenient and essential during COVID-19. : Vegetable glycerine: https://www.melrosehealth.com.au/pure-vegetable-glycerine-2 IPA Technical Grade (required) 99.997% Isopropyl/Rubbing Alcohol: https://core-electronics.com.au/ipa-technical-grade-99-997- Hydrogen peroxide 3%: your local chemist, or grocery store. 08.01.2022 #2: ! During yesterday’s post, I talked about the hundreds of thousands of microbes that dwell in your home, so today it seems fitting to share my killer floor cleaning recipe! ... Okay, so it won’t kill you or the kids, and only your husband if you make him clean the floors , but it’s sure to kill many of the nasties commonly found in your home. If you’re anything like me and you like to tick all your boxes, you can pop over to our blog and read the science behind this antimicrobial powerhouse called Eucalyptus. http://bit.ly/2UpizQC Alternatively, just make the recipe and start mopping! 1 capful of organic Eucalyptus essential oil 15 drops of Tea Tree (optional) 500ml spray bottle Water Add 1 capful of organic eucalyptus essential oil to spray bottle and fill with warm water. Gently shack to combine ingredients and spray directly onto floor and mop with a flat mop. This recipe suits most hardwoods and hard surfaced floors! However, there are always exceptions to every rule. If your floor has recently been installed, please check with your supplier first. : , , ’ - , .

03.01.2022 ! I’m often poking my nose in cleaning groups reading member hints and tips, learning new things. As much as I love reading new great ideas, it’s disheartening to see just how many people use chemical laden cleaning products. Many pack some serious toxic punch, and of course, they all end up down the sink and into our oceans. ... If your loo a little neglected and has a build up of stains, check out these natural, non toxic remedies.
