25.01.2022 This week we celebrate our 5th Anniversary! A Family that cakes together, stays together!

24.01.2022 Our government and private flu vaccines are in stock at Shire Family Medical. Please give us a call on 9545 1777 if you are due to have your flu vaccine.

23.01.2022 A helpful article on COVID Clearance letters This is another COVID-19 myth that must be busted. An employer, principal or day care manager is not allowed to dictate that an employee, child or student must have a certificate to return safely to a workplace, primary school, secondary school or day care facility.

22.01.2022 For Everyone’s safety, please wear a face mask when you visit our practice - Thank you!

22.01.2022 Masks with valves are not effective in preventing the spread of COVID19. This article has some helpful information. "This type of mask does not prevent the person from transmitting COVID19 to others" Therefore, Centres for Disease Control does not recommend using masks for source control if they have an exhalation valve or vent.

21.01.2022 FLU VACCINE UPDATE: Our Government & Private flu vaccine stock has arrived. Please call our team on 9545 1777 to book an appointment in our flu clinic times. https://www.abc.net.au//australians-urged-to-get-/12107264

20.01.2022 Happy Birthday to one of our favs, Nurse Jackie! She has been tirelessly serving our community as a volunteer firefighter and caring for our patients as a nurse for many years! Everyone needs a nurse Jackie in their lives! We are so thankful for YOU!

20.01.2022 FLU VACCINE UPDATE: we will be running our flu vaccine clinics as soon as we receive our stock. We expect this to be in the next week or so. The RACGP recommends members of the community receive the right flu vaccination for their age group through their GP. If you are not eligible for the government free vaccine, but have recently lost your job, SFM will cover these costs and provide the flu vaccine to you free of charge. https://www1.racgp.org.au//0bfe2888-fa01-4/attachment.aspx

19.01.2022 IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM SFM Seeing a doctor regularly is an important investment for your health. We are committed to providing the highest standards of personalised care for your physical and emotional well being. Shire Family medical is still open for Face to Face consultations and it is essential now more than ever to regularly check in with us as susceptibility to illness increases during times of pandemic. With our highest level of infection control measures in place, it ...is still safe to see a GP at Shire Family Medical during the COVID19 Pandemic. Evidence suggests that those with chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, ischaemic heart disease, known cancers, immune suppression, recurrent skin cancers and other conditions, if regular face to face check ups are not sought for the isolation period (current suggestion of 6 months) you risk worsening of these conditions or even death due to adverse events. This risk may end up matching the risk of catching COVID19. How do you balance the risks? Telehealth (phone or video) consultations are available to discuss your condition with a GP and if possible we will order appropriate management from a distance. If a face to face review is needed please know we have structured our day to ensure the safety and protection of our patients. We have strict infection control measures in place including; limiting the total number of patients in the practice, hand sanitizer on arrival and exit, distancing markers, reduced seating in the waiting room, repeated disinfection of all surfaces and arranging well clinic times where patients with respiratory symptoms are not allowed to attend. We continue to run special unwell clinics at allocated times to care for and treat anyone experiencing a cough, sore throat, runny nose, fever, shortness of breath or cold and flu like symptoms. These allocated times allow us to prepare protective gear and ensure strict infection control procedures are in place for all. Those attending our unwell clinic are required to wait in their car on arrival until the GP is ready to see them and wear a mask on entry to our practice or obtain a mask from reception. The surgery is then thoroughly disinfected after this clinic. Please know it is safe for you to attend a well clinic to have your chronic condition attended to and important in avoiding worsening of conditions or missed diagnoses over these next months of uncertainty. To all our patients we are here, working long hours to care for you, please avail yourself or the above methods of maintaining your health in a safe way. Please share this message with your family and friends as desired. With care, from all at Shire Family Medical

19.01.2022 We need to re-badge the concept, to demonstrate how we can create healthy spaces, keeping one another safe, without the loss/sorrow/loneliness that distancing implies Some very helpful steps to create healthy spaces for you and your family.

13.01.2022 We are aware that COVID-19 is causing understandable concern amongst our community. We want to assure you that Shire Family Medical have been preparing and putting measures into place to ensure the health and safety of all our patients, staff and Doctors. Our aim is to continue to deliver best practice while protecting well patients and caring for and treating the unwell. General routine appointments are available in our morning and afternoon sessions. These appointments are ...only available for patients with no recent overseas travel, no known contact with a case of Coronavirus, and no viral respiratory symptoms whatsoever. We have structured special clinics for anyone (adults and children) experiencing coughs, cold and flu symptoms (including muscle aches and pains, sore throat and runny nose), fever or shortness of breath. These allocated times allow us to prepare protective gear and maintain the highest level of infection control for each and every patient. If you attend our unwell clinic, you must notify us from your car on arrival, and wear a mask on entry to our practice or obtain a mask from reception before entering the waiting room. If you are unwell with any viral respiratory illness, please call our practice to arrange your appointment. Do not book your appointment online, as we have allocated appointment times set aside for your condition. Telehealth phone calls can be arranged with a Doctor or nurse at allocated times in the morning and afternoon. These are especially important for those at higher risk or those uncertain how to act. Please enquire with reception as to whether you meet the criteria to be eligible for a Telehealth consultation. Further information can be found on the Australian Government Telehealth Fact Sheet In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, please be aware that our receptionists will ask you some important questions to triage the ordering of appointments and your symptoms and to determine if you meet the testing requirements for Coronavirus. Further information can also be obtained via the Coronavirus hotline 1800 020 080. The above processes and plans are critical to separate well patients from symptomatic patients. Please be understanding, patient and courteous as hopefully these arrangements will be temporary. Shire Family Medical Management
