23.01.2022 I almost forgot to say thank you to our wonderful timekeeper, Kaye and our apprentice timekeeper Bob. A big thank you from everyone in the club.

23.01.2022 Congratulations to our club member Mark Sundin on being awarded 2020 PNSW Image of the Year.

21.01.2022 The Tuesday morning coaching gang got their feet wet today doing drills in the Wonnie. It must be getting warmer .... no one even mentioned that the water was cold!

20.01.2022 Today Robyn and the Wonnie Warriers picked over 1.5Kgs of rubbish out of the Wonnie. Well done guys! *** Save the date *** On Sunday the 13th December, the juniors will be paddling down past the foot bridge to the beach on the right-hand side to help with a clean-up. Let's all pitch in and give Robyn a hand.

19.01.2022 Yet another busy Sunday at the clubhouse with a big contingent of paddlers in the 2nd last 5K time trial for the year, club members out enjoying a paddle on a sunny morning and 3 trial paddlers practicing their skills. Lots and lots of smiling paddlers!

18.01.2022 The 'results' are in

18.01.2022 An almost perfect morning on the water today. Smiles all round

18.01.2022 How many K1s does it take to get a truck tyre out of the Wonnie? Well 1 did an ok job but 3 was better. The council has been contacted and are coming to get the tyre before someone puts it back in the water. #take3forthesea#wonniewardens#georgesriverkeeper#sutherlandshirecouncil#paddlensw

17.01.2022 Given the Covid situation in the Greater Sydney area, SSCC has made the decision to cancel the 20 Groynes Community Paddle. We'll have to wait until January 2022 to see who's crowned the King and Queen of the Groynes and which relay team wins the coveted Multi Groynes title.

16.01.2022 Trust these 2 to turn out to be cover boys!

16.01.2022 The September time trial today. The water was a little low but still some fast times. Fastest over the 5k was Dean Blanche in a scorching 21:27. First over the line James Stuart beating his PB by nearly a minute. Jai was not far behind finishing 2nd and third Lindsey Gilbert. Fastest female was Annette Mathews also with a PB. Well done everyone. We missed not having Bob T around, however very thankful for the ever reliable Kaye on the stopwatch.

16.01.2022 Joan Morrison is a legend at our club. Let's get a big team together to take part in the new PaddleNSW event, the Morison 50 on October 31st, 2020.

15.01.2022 Covid permitting, the Makai's on again on Saturday 13 February

15.01.2022 Well done to all the winners of the PNSW 2020 Awards but let's once again congratulate our fellow SSCC paddlers Mark Sundin for taking out the award for Image of the Year and Bob Turner for Coach of the Year.

15.01.2022 We had a fantastic ski day at Bonnie Vale today. With 27 paddlers creating quite a spectacle both on and off the water. The focus of the day was on learning to paddle our skis safely. We covered how to remount, how to perform self and group rescues, etc. We had a lot of fun, learnt a lot and the team activities brought out the competitive side in a few of us. A very big thank you to Mark Sundin and Rob Mercer for their excellent instruction.

15.01.2022 Got some spare time in October, why not think about training for the Masters Games in Perth: - Canoe Marathon: Saturday 9 October and Sunday 10 October - Canoe Sprint: Wednesday 13 October - Canoe Ocean Race: Saturday 16 October Entry is open to all who meet the minimum age criteria, which for paddling is 35 years.

15.01.2022 All the toys came out of the shed today!!!

15.01.2022 Thanks Helen for more photos of the fun at Bonnie Vale today

14.01.2022 Well done everyone but especially well done to eco-worrier Robyn ...

14.01.2022 Some more photos from the time trial today. Well done to everyone who took part.

14.01.2022 Today the Sutherland Shire Canoe Club celebrated NAIDOC Week. We're so lucky that our clubhouse is located in the beautiful Burnum Burnum Reserve but have you ever wondered who Burnum Burnum was? Burnum Burnum was an Australian Aboriginal activist, actor, and author. He was a Woiworrung and Yorta Yorta man at Wallaga Lake in southern New South Wales. He was originally named Harry Penrith but took the name of his great grandfather, which means Great Warrior. He may be best rem...embered for planting the Aboriginal flag on the white cliffs of Dover on the Australian Bicentenary Day of 26 January 1988. Burnum Burnum lived in Woronora in his later life and was active in the local community. In 2005 Jannali Reserve was renamed Burnum Burnum Reserve in his honour. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burnum_Burnum The SSCC acknowledges the traditional custodians of country throughout Australia and their connection to land, sea, and community. We pay our respect to their elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

12.01.2022 Well done to the Tuesday coaching crew for noticing something not quite right in the water early this morning. It turned out to be baby kookaburra that was drowning in the Wonnie. The bird was exhausted and shivering when we rescued it. It's now safe and sound at a local WIRES vet.

12.01.2022 Congratulations to 3 of our paddlers for outstanding results in the PNSW Ultramarathon Virtual Race #1 Robyn Bingle: first in the 30km 50-69 years women's division John Denyer and Gareth Stokes: first in the 30km open men's double division Well done to all our paddlers who participated in this virtual ultra marathon

12.01.2022 Today was a particularly nice day for a paddle on the Wonnie. SSCC welcomes it's newest member, Frank to the club

12.01.2022 A message from our eco warrior Robyn Bingle: A few of us from Sutherland shire canoe club picked up a bit of rubbish, well as much as possible in our kayaks, from the George's River, last weekend. If you love the water please chase that plastic bag the wind caught, plastic doesn't break down, it breaks up into micro pieces which the fish eat, and then us. Next time you're on the water or walking on the beach take 3 for the sea. Let's all enjoy clean water and protect the wildlife. #take3forthesea#wonniewardens#georgesriverkeeper#sutherlandshirecouncil#paddlensw

12.01.2022 A Sunday paddle on the Wonnie doesn't get much better than this

08.01.2022 Congratulations to Bob for being joint winner of the Paddle NSW Coach of the Year award. Everyone in the club wants to thank you for the time and effort you put into making us better paddlers. This is a well deserved award.

06.01.2022 Something to think about .... our home insurance policy may not adequately cover our precious paddle gear ...

06.01.2022 Dibbo's got a new toy ....

06.01.2022 It might have been raining but the Tuesday crew still had 'fun' doing drills this morning

06.01.2022 A fabulous morning on the water with our newest club members: Frank, Hugh and Vanessa. Thanks to our escort paddlers: Janet, Jenny, Dianne, Narelle and Annette.

05.01.2022 As timekeeper, I didn't have time to take many good shots at the 10K Time Trial last week. But I think this one captures the spirit of paddler 108.

05.01.2022 REMINDER: due to the club ski day, the clubhouse is closed on Sunday 22 Nov.

03.01.2022 Thanks Helen for these photos of today's TT
