18.01.2022 A message from our office

18.01.2022 Some people are still repeating the mantra 'don't buy into' fear. The opposite of fear is not avoidance, dissociation or irresponsbility. I'm not saying that in... blame. I have all those tendencies myself. They're just attempts to stay safe. But they don't create true safety. And they're actually a form of buried fear. The opposite of fear is courage. Courage means doing what is best, even when it's hard. Courage means being willing to seem foolish or extreme, in order to protect the most vulnerable. Courage means sitting with our most difficult feelings, including fear and grief. Courage also means finding joy in the midst of struggle of course, but genuine joy, which does not shut down other feelings, other cares, and considerations of other people's needs. We all have a limited capacity for empathy and consideration of others. Every form of privilege filters empathy. Right now, being non-elderly and non immune-compromised is a form of privilege, as we don't have to fear the virus as some do. We have to consciously overcome this privilege, and foster the consideration needed to act for the good of all. By keeping our distance, to slow the rates of infection, so that healthcare systems don't get over-whelmed. By staying healthy, loving and connected too. Don't 'buy into' avoidance, dissociation and irresponsiblity. Don't buy into the fear of feeling all that is, the fear of facing the current reality, the fear of changing how you live, in order to maybe save lives.

10.01.2022 In just two weeks, I'll beginning a brand new 6-part webinar called "The Nature of Forgetting: Neurofeedback and Psychotherapy in the Treatment of Dissociative ...Disorders" Here's a short video introduction to the course- I hope you'll join me! When you really look at developmental trauma and all of its aftermath we cant treat it with psychotherapy alone. That doesnt get to the patterns in the brain that are so disrupted by developmental trauma. I know that because I suffered that, and I know that because I lived a fruitful life with a background of ambient fear- until someone provided me with neurofeedback, and then I began to get out. I began to become free." - SF To register: https://buff.ly/2Gx2TEf

04.01.2022 What you are seeing in this slide (at the bottom) is the connectivity between the reptilian and limbic areas in the brains of people with histories of early chi...ldhood neglect and assault who dissociate and what happens to that pattern of connectivity (at the top) in 80% of subjects after one session of EEG neurofeedback. Here we see pre-frontal connectivity taking over. We'll discuss the implications of this slide for the treatment of dissociation in my upcoming webinar "The Nature of Forgetting", beginning Feb16th. 01.01.2022 During this time of unknown challenges, where it feels like the world has gone mad because so many are experiencing anxiety, it is important to look after your mental health and one another, even from a distance. Check in on a friend or an elderly neighbour by giving them a call. Dont constantly read the news. Be proactive. See home schooling as an opportunity to reconnect with your family. Wash your hands for 20 seconds, drink hot drinks and eat healthy food. If you had to go out, leave your bags and clothes at the door and wash it ASAP. Connect with old friends online. Talk to your kids about their feelings and send a message of calm reassurance that we will get through this. If you are isolated at home, watch this video and remember there is always calm after a storm.
