17.01.2022 HAVE YOUR SAY ABOUT SPORT AND RECREATION IN THE SHIRE The Shire of Dandaragan is developing a Sport and Recreation Plan (S&R Plan) to guide investment in appropriate sport and recreation facilities to service each of the 4 town centres. Provision of sport and recreation facilities and services is across organised team sports, individual participant sports (e.g. fitness gym) and recreation opportunities. We invite you to have your say about sport and recreation in the Shire of... Dandaragan today and into the future. A club questionnaire has been distributed to sporting and recreation clubs and is due back Friday 22 January. However we would also like feedback from the broader community. The link below is for a Community Survey and we will be accepting these back until 5pm Friday 26 February 2021. The survey is private and confidential and all responses will be handled by JSA Consulting for the Shire of Dandaragan. The S&R Plan will address capital assets for meeting current and future recreation needs of the Shire’s community for the following 15 year period. Community requirements will need to be balanced against the financial resources of the Shire and potential partnerships for capital and operational cost sharing. Ultimately, the Recreation Plan will enable the Shire to make well-informed asset management decisions and effectively plan for future provision for its recreation facilities. A hard copy of the Community Survey is available at the Shire's website or from the Shire Administration Centre in Jurien Bay. https://www.dandaragan.wa.gov.au/consultations/ Please note, public workshops will be held around the Shire from 8-17 February. 13.01.2022 SAFETY MEASURES TO JURIEN BAY JETTY IN THE LEAD UP TO CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS We know how beloved the Jurien Bay jetty is, in particular for kids to jump off. However, due to natural accretion and the change in water depth, for the safety of the public, the water access ladder partway along the Jurien Bay jetty has been removed. The presence of the water access ladder at this location gives the impression that water depth is suitably deep enough to jump into from the jetty. Unfor...tunately, the current water levels mean this is not the case. Water depths along the Jetty, combined with heights above the water, are unsuitable for the purpose of diving and jumping into the water. An access ladder located on the platform at the end of the jetty is available for use, however jumping is not encouraged at any point along the jetty. Safety signage will be erected on the jetty tomorrow.

02.01.2022 YOUTH PRECINCT AND SKATEPARK CONSTRUCTION CONTINUES Have you seen all the works and activity down at Dobbyn Park in Jurien Bay this Christmas? The Jurien Bay Youth Precinct, supported by Lotterywest, is stage one of the Jurien Bay Foreshore Redevelopment project which will create family-friendly fun right on our incredible foreshore. ... The Youth Precinct and skatepark will provide a multi-generational activity space, not only for the Jurien Bay community, but for young people and their families from around the Shire, as well as visitors to town. The Shire’s aim in developing this space is to encourage community cohesiveness whilst providing young people with an array of activities in a safe area with active surveillance. The Shire of Dandaragan has been working with a foreshore working group (community-based members), as well as our major supporter, Lotterywest, to develop a skate park and community facilities including shelters, lighting and landscaping. This project aims to increase areas for young local people to engage and socialise with their families, increase opportunities for youth physical activity, and keep our young people and families in the local community. Leading up to Christmas and the end of 2020, the Shire, in preparation for Convic who are constructing the skatepark - undertook demolition of old exercise equipment, removed turf and other park infrastructure. Convic moved quickly to begin earthworks, install drainage and lay blinding layers for the skatepark elements. By Christmas, the bulk of the earthworks were completed in time for the skatepark team to take a break and enjoy the sun and beach of Jurien Bay. The project team will assess the quality of the original gym equipment and we aim to reuse as much as possible. As we kick off construction again in 2021, more of the Convic team will be arriving which will really ramp up works to be done during January. This month, the construction team will be installing coping for the 2m skatepark bowl ; forming and pouring the downturn walls for the big bowl platform and then forming other platforms. The target timeline to finalise construction is late March 2021, just in time for the Easter School holidays. Stay tuned for more updates over the coming months about stage two, which includes a new beach pavilion and nature playground.
